Default Breaking P1 - what should I grab?

Hi, I have a oppertunity to switch over some part's from my99 Turbo Wagon with a written off P1, what would be the best bit's to get? anythng I remove must be replaced from my car.

I figure the intercooler and possiobely the Turbo (Does anyone know if the P1 used the VF28 turbo?)

What else is worth swapping over?

depends how much damage etc.... TBH i pretty much changed my uk97 into a P1 underneath... i loved the shorter gearbox, turbo is the VF28 yes. but i also did the whole engine/loom too.... maybe further than you want to go....

Seats? I have some in mine and they'll bolt straight in.

I'm probably not going to be able to take that much, I have already uprated the handling on my car so really thinking of more power related mod's, will definately look to get the Turbo and Intercooler and I guess the ECU might also be worth swapping.

Anything else you suggest ?

The ECU will expect an engine with forged pistons and STI5 heads - as in 8k+ revs. So unless you swap the engine too its not woth the ECU, yours will need a remap if you swap the turbo.

The shocks/springs could be a good upgrade depending on the setup you have now.

Wheels perhaps, STI panel filter, possibly the headlights if crystal etc

is the ecu wise? a lot of p1s went bang and the ecu had the finger pointed at it. alledgedly the map is not very symapthetic for UK fuel.

Assuming I swap the Turbo, Do you know if my car will still run using the exisiting UK ECU std map in the short term?

Yep, just drive off boost untill the remap

Also the centre section of the P1 doesn't have a cat, so could be worth swapping (assuming you have OE exhaust)

i ran a uk my99 wagon on a vf28 and full decat on a a802 ecu for a long while with no probs. Altough you would be best to have a remap, (and don't blame me if it went bang)

Regarding the ECU's, they only cause a problem when you start removing the cats, i.e. aftermarket exhausts. The P1's were set up to the limit, to many people bolted on exhausts causing the car to run lean meaning ******* two of the four pistons.

Left alone the P1's are fine, start playing around with out a re-map and your asking for trouble.

..or sticking them in cars whose engines can't handle 8k rpm

I,m assuming the brakes on the p1 would be slightly better, and with the two cars next to each other not a huge job either.

More scaremongering about aftermarket exhausts I see. My old p1 had full decat from the first week, no problems, 50 odd thousand miles now, no remap. Plenty of standard P1s have blown up.

Totally agree with you there mate - mine was also decatted from the very beginning and wasn't remapped until it was 4 years old. Never had any engine worries and when Bob remapped it he said it sounded fine.

I think that too many people worry about engines - if it's gonna go then it's gonna go. Just get a knocklink fitted so that you know when to back off to preserve your engine when chasing that EVO....

Cheers

Terry

not unless they're the alcon upgrades (or other) the P1 4 pots will be the same as his 99 4 pots.

if it's still ok the suspension is different and better than std uk, spotlights fetch decent money as does the spoiler. front splitter/bumper is worth getting and the interior will be worth a few quid aswell even the badges on the wings and bootlid go for good money on ebay

strip it bare
