Question Nobbers guide to Scoob 4wd system?

Hi, did a FAQ and Search, nothing came up that I was looking for (I'm crap at searching though).

On the classic shape Impreza, is the 4wd controled by computers, or by clever diffs? Also, would this have changed with the evolution of the Impreza?

Cheers!

No computers on classics as far as I know, just normal diffs, some LSD some open. DCCD equiped cars have more, i believe the later new age cars now have yaw sensors, but nowhere near as advanced as the AYC/ACD of the EVO

Its not that complex. IIRC the UK version has an open front diff, viscous centre and a LSD on the back. Roughly 50:50 split front to rear. No computer control, all mechanical. Some of the JDM imports have the driver controlled centre diff (DCCD) where the torque split front to rear can be adjusted on the fly. The STIs may have slightly more trick LSDs front and rear but I guess it depends on the MY and model, eg. Type R, RA etc.

Here we go, another question with everybody beggining their answer IIRC or I think and half a dozen different answers peppered with guess work and inaccuracies.

May I suggest posting this in technical and look here

I don't know if I should visit the opticians or what- but I can't see a 'thread start' icon

Could it be because I'm a newbie that I can't post in technical???

As above.

Welcome to Scoobynet and forgive my manners, am trying to give up smoking and I'm finding it increasingly difficult not to be very rude to people .

Best wishes
