Sold it....... Finally Common Sense won over.
Well all.
My journey back into Scooby ownership has been Short but incredibly sweet.
Having owned a PPP'd Terzo for 12 months 2 years ago, back in April temptation got the better of me again. I picked up a 2002 WRX Sti type UK with PPP and my god it's been a beast. Loved every minute
Except :-
Ballancing my Monthly Fuel Bill against what the company pays me
Over the last 2 months the mileage has gone up and it doesn't look like letting up.
Last month I covered 2800 business miles and spent £620 on fuel.
I claimed back for the privelage £386.00
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out I was £234.00 out of pocket.
The month before I did 3,560 Miles and daren't work that one out.
Coupled with the fact that I am racing towards the 50k Service at an alarming rate, the Angel on my right shoulder has finally won over the Devil on the left. As much as I love it the old girl has had to go.
So..........
Thursday I shall be depositing the Scoob and become the Proud owner of a 2002 Beemer 330d Sport.
£400 cheeper to insure and 40 to the Gallon. It's never going to outrun my STi but at least at the end of the month I'll be smiling. Also pleased to learn that the Service intervals are a minimum of every 13.5k and if it's mainly motorway miles that could go up to 17 or 18k.
So there you go.
As of Thurday I shall no longer need indicators and all my mates will think I'm a ****.
No change there then

There just comes a point when you can't justify the Costs. Especially if you have to use it for work. The recent fuel hikes finished me off. It's a bloody disgrace that Unleaded prices filtered back down but Optimax and Bp Ultimate are still at 1.03+ per litre.
Everyone I know thats owned a 330d still does and raves about the complete package so we'll wait and see eh.
I shall report back at the weekend after driving 420 Miles to Great Yarmouth and back on Sunday.

I've got a 330d sport + it's a great all round car. As you say, good on the fuel but still pretty nippy when you want it. Doesn't quite sound as good as an STi but hey you can't have it all ...

I get 5k per annum (Taxed) via my Salary as a Car allowance aswell but as it's in the Salary I tend to view it as Wages rather than Money for Car. When I do the Self assesment for each year I Claim back against my Tax bill the difference between the 40p a mile for the first 10k and 25p per Mile thereafter.
Last year I got over 2k back from the revenue
That tends to pay for the Holiday and it's like a Saving plan in a strange kind of way.
I know that If I was to factor in the Allowance properly I probably break even on the Scoob but to be honest I would like to make money out of the scheme or I would be better just selling and getting a Company Car again. But why get further raped and pilleged by the Government.
With the Beemer I can cover all my cost of fuel with the Monthly claw back and the rest is straight profit...

Mine costs me approx. 9p a mile in fuel. I also claim back from the IR every year, but work pays me 23p for the first 10k and 12p after that. I still get £600-£800 back each year, and it covers a service and the insurance and tyres. Happy days!

This thread has really quite shocked me to honest.
I fully expected the usual SN battering following this decision but it would appear I have struck Gold (Or Silver on 18's in my case)
It would appear that the 330d is a well respected weapon of choice for the Scooby owner looking to defect to a more wallet friendly Car.

Dont for one minute think you wont miss the Scoob m8. But from experience Scoobs are not the best Mway mile munchers. You pocket will love you, your heart will keep reminding you

Getting rid of my 03 sti to buy a 330d BM. Drove a demo car at the weekend and its was a fantastic all round package.
Gonna look at remapping by DMS? in Andover i think...takes the 210bhp to 260bhp and the torque upto 400ft/lb apparently
0-60 time of 6 secs... cant be bad
and still good on fuel!!!
Read in one of the car mags that " the 330d m sport is the thinking mans M3"

i can see why you've done it, if the scoob was costing that much to run just for the privilege of driving on behalf of the company.
although that said i'm only getting 25mpg on average out of the 2 litre diesel 407 i've got as a courtesy car at the moment, compared to 19mpg out of the scoob.
must be something to do with the way i drive
