Default auction grades (in japan)

anyone clued up on what auction grades mean?

i assume grade 1-5 means the higher the number the better the condition?

what do these grades mean?

Very simply: dont touch grades 1-3 (although grade 1 cars may simply be modified, see the appraisal sheet). 3.5 is better although it varies from auction to auction; many auctions wont give a car with over 100K KMs a grade higher than 3.5. Grade 4 is as good as older cars commonly get although youll still see the odd New Age STI with a 4.5..... 0s, As and Rs are repair grade cars; not all auctionsgrade these cars in the same way. You must see the appraisal sheet, simply 'knowing' the grade isnt enough.
