NEWAGE WRX 1/4 MILE TIMES
Sorry but its another one of those post...
Ok, me and a few others met at york raceway yesterday afternoon. Was a good day had by many i think.
My car seemed to run ell, i ran my PB, BUT, i cant help thinking my car has more or im doing something wrong.
Right, the car, standard spec UK 05 WRX PPP, nothing at all done to it apart from having been driven for a total of 4,800 miles now.
Running all day and up against a fe other scoob owners, 2 things became very apparent, 1) my car seems to be fast of the line (well, quicker than the others i drew up against, and 2) my car seems slow on the final 1/8 mile. is this all in my head, is it because the other cars are well tunes, because a few of the cars and raced, and beat all had 10mph on me at the terminal speed, talking to them they had very little done to there cars, all classic WRX with the exhaust and filter, they claimed 280 to 290 bhp mark.
so whats going wrong, does anyone have any simailr speced cars that they can compare the times on. What will the WRX STI non PPP run, can anyone shed some light on the situation. please
Below is a breakdown of my 7 runs
0-60 FT Time
Run 1> 2.166
Run 2> 2.093
Run 3> 2.089
Run 4> 2.107

Run 7> 2.094

Run 1> 9.150
Run 2> 9.043
Run 3> 8.927
Run 4> 9.071
Run 5> 8.981
Run 6> 8.966
Run 7> 9.070
1/8 Mile Speed
Run 1> 76.13
Run 2> 77.06
Run 3> 78.19
Run 4> 77.45
Run 5> 78.28
Run 6> 77.61
Run 7> 76.75
1/4 Mile Time
Run 1> 14.373
Run 2> 14.151
Run 3> 14.013
Run 4> 14.171

60fts have room for improvement.
Dont know too much about the blobeyes but nothing looks amiss. I dont know the book figures for 0-100mph but your 0-96mph in 14secs seems fine.
A classic will have more power/weight than yours and this will be more apparant as the speeds increase. A classic with 260-280bhp are capable of v low 13s @100+mph

I was this a one mate...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../dragscoob.jpg
My launches seemed good, i put at least a cars lenght on every car i raced, EVO MR 330, a 480bhp Evo 6, the white classic with all the carbon bits on, he rekons thats into 400 bhp territory i think he said...
So my getting away was ok i think, 5,00rpm, dumped clutch, although i was told i got alot of front wheel spin, but most others did from what i seen.
It was the end of the run where ppl tore strips off me, looking at the otheres terminal speeds, there all 10mph more than me, is this righ for my d=car, or is it my shifts during the end thats causing this???
In the 5 speed, what gear should i be crossing the line in, exactly what revs do i change at???
sorry for all the question, im new at this and would like to get good at it if possible lol
Cheers

well all my data being ok, what can i do to improve this?
Obviously im not going to throw the warranty away, so anything done needs to be reversable, so im not expecting any vast improvements

Hi John,
As I was running behind you (not literally), I got to see most of you launches.
You where getting more wheelspin than most and I think this is reflected in your relatively slow 60ft times. The surface was not the best to launch on.
A good 60ft time would be around 1.7 - 1.8 seconds. The difference between what you are doing and a good 60ft time (i.e 0.3 - 0.4 of a second) can be doubled over the lenght of the quarter mile.
So if you take your best run and add to that a good 60ft time, it could be that potentially your times could make it into the mid 13's quite easily.
Sounds easy doesn't it

cheers for that, i could tell i was getting alot of slip on the start, but when watching the others, i just pressumed they were the same as me, if not worse due to them having to connect more power down.
ive done 13 runs in the car now, this time felt alot better, but i guess practice makes perfect.
Checked the front ytres when i got up this morning as well, that aint good, i definatly scrubbed off a bit of rubber....
but hey, its only money eh.... lol
