Red face Temperature Problem

Driving my car this evening, everythings ok. Look at the temp gauge, its going mental. As soon as I put my foot down on the accelerator the temp goes to H then UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN. Put the car into neutral, temp returns to normal.

Rang my mate who services subaras, He came round to look at the car. Says everythings ok. Looks like a doggy sensor or gauge.
Have to take it round Monday so he can give me deffinate answer.

Anyone know how much it costs for either a new sensor or gauge? and has anyone else experienced this?

Mine did this not so long ago, once the whole system had cooled down I found the water level to be low.
If your fans kick in then I doubt its a sensor that gone.
What year is the car?

MY CARS 2000 W REG.
THE STRANGE THING IS, THAT WHEN THE CARS IN NEUTRAL AND COASTING THE TEMPERATURES COMPLETLY FINE, IT ONLY WHEN YOU ACCELERATE AWAY.

IT IS REALLY STRANGE. I'LL TAKE AN MPEG VIDEO CLIP OF IT AND POST IT, SO YOU CAN SEE WOT I'M TALKING ABOUT.

Hi mate,
I`ve just had the same problem aswell....and after checking gauges, switches, wiring etc i finally found the problem..

I took the radiator off and had the flow rate tested, and it was down by about 25%...About a quarter of the rad was blocked...I then spoke to the local Subaru dealer who told me that scoobys are known for this as they collect lime scale inside the rad and block up...

Anyway, it was £200 for a new rad, so had mine re-cored for £80 which is as good as a new one, and woo hoo, problem cured....

I was so happy, i was scared it was gonna be the heads or something daft...

So try that mate, it just might be the problem....

Simon...

Oh yeah, i got a 2001 WRX...

Glad you got it fixed, but seems a bit weird that they would collect limescale - isn't that the reason why everyone in the world uses deionised water for the rad? Surely it would only fur up if you put tap water in there?

Ive never heard of anyone putting deionised water in a rad,Normally just mix of tap water and anti-freeze that im aware off.

Just to add i dont use any water at all in my rad,Just neat anti-freeze,But thats for different reasons.
