I'm looking to mod my Impreza - having resisted the temptation for a year now, it's a MY99 classic which is pretty much standard apart from an STi backbox.

The trouble is that I can't hear the thing once the turbo kicks in, honestly I've driven through tunnels with the window open and the tyres make more noise than the exhaust. I'm also looking for a partial decat and have read that sometimes this can cause annoying droning whilst cruising which I also do not want, and I have sensitive neigbours so it needs to be pretty reasonable at low speed.

I've driven a WR1 (thanks Arron) and that is probebly about the noise level I'm after, noticable but not over-powering, has anyone got any recommendations (and no I'm not going the PPP route - though I might consider the exhaust alone but I don't think that you can buy them from Subarus dealers unless part of the entire kit)

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Perhaps try and magnex centre de-cat and then a hayward and scott back box? I would have thought that wouldn't annoy the neighbours as much as a blitz nur spec would!!

that is exactly what i've got on mine, and it gives you that nice growl that prople notice when you rev it in town but is still comfortable on motorway driving.
got it off a guy who was having a MASSIVE back box and mid pipe put on, but htey are cheap enough off e bay

just bung a full magnex on there with the downpipe. doesnt look stupid like some 5 inch ''jap cans'' as seen on kevs saxo and barrys nova while giving excellent sound. as my mate once said driving through the a500 tunnels '' **** me mate that sounds bloody lovely''.
