With all the recent stories of car jacking i thought i'd try and activate my cars safety locking.
According to the manual switch on ignition, press remote button once and then press 4 on the key pad and switch off the ignition.
Done all this and bugger all happens.
Any ideas

the car locks itself after a preset time of you starting it to prevent people hyjacking it

I drive a 2002wrx and am not sure if its the same as the 2001 from the security point of view.
If it is look on the righthand side of your steering wheel and just doen to the right should be a little pull out draw 'thingy'. This has the key pad on it.
Typing in different codes enables the standard fit alarm/immobiliser to differnet things. It should be all documanted in your manuals.
Any further advice, please ask.

Anyone know if you can programme the standard sigma alarm to do this on a MY00 model (keypad in the glovebox).

The safety Lock/Auto Lock feature is available on all UK supplied Subarus from 99MY to date except Legacy models from 04MY. On later models equipped with Double locking, only single lock occurs when the ignition is turned on for occupant safety.

To enable Auto Lock - turn the ignition on, press transmitter button (dash LED will flash once), press button 4 on the keypad and then turn the ignition off within 5 seconds. It may be neccessary to arm, disarm and then turn the ignition on then off before the feature becomes active.

This feature locks the doors the moment the ignition is turned on (and unlocks when turned off) - there is no delay.
The Auto Lock feature will not attempt to lock the doors if a door (boot or bonnet) remains open when the ignition is turned on - the indicators will flash once as confirmation that Auto-lock has been disabled.
Due to these factors you cannot lock the keys in the vehicle as a result of activating the Auto Lock feature.

Why not just lock your doors with the button which locks all the doors?

 

Is there a total closure funtion built in to the standard system?

 

Setting to auto means you never forget

I have mine activated on my 05MY WRX, as soon as you turn the key all four doors lock ( As long as the doors are closed ).

Can be activated via the keypad, instructions on how to do it are in your owners manual.
If not I have a document that tells you how to turn on many of the options on the Sigma M30 alarm system.

"The Sigma M30 alarm system has many more features than you may be aware of. The standard Subaru fitted system has the majority of these features switched off for simplicity and to conform to European legislation. Just to let you know what can be done…….."

does it have total closure?

 

Not 100% sure which alarm system an MY02 STI has, but I would guess its simalar.

The sigma M30 doestn't have total closure, but has an output that can be used for closing windows. ( With the correct kit installed )

i am picking up a 55 WRX (maltese RHD), had to have a Sigma System 4 + tracker monitor fitted-> is this the same system as you get on a standard UK vehicle?

 

And what if I start the engine, get out of the car and close the door.....

 

It locks when you start it, no time delay. very simple.

 

Someone else will open the door, get in the car, drive off with your keys and your insurance won't cover you

You can't get out of the car, the doors locked until to turn the ignition off.

One thing i'm not sure about though is in the event of an accident do the locks pop open again
