Default Stolen scoobs and insurance

With all the thefts involving scoobs lately, will this inevitably have a knock-on effect & hike up the price of premiums when renewing & price out new buyers as more get stolen? Will it become harder to sell a scoob now?

A mate has been looking to buy one for the last couple of months & had got a fairly decent insurance quote based on type, age, model he was after. He found one he liked & rang insurance company to confirm, he expected a discount because it would be garaged & was told that it didn’t make much difference as even garaged ones were easy to steal now. When asked about mods, he mentioned that it was stickered like a rally scoob & they promptly increased the premium saying as it would attract more attention it’d be more of a target for theft. The quote ended up at a silly price & he has binned any idea he had of buying a scoob now.

I dont think it will have a masive effect, scoobys have been one of the favourates for car theives for a long time!! there were probably nearly as many last year...its just recently a lot of them happen to have been posted on here.....

but as time is going on car crime does seem to be rising and rising but as it does new cars will become desirable to theives..even at the moment i would still say bmw,s seem to be more favoured by them!

Unfortunatly we like cars that make good get away cars and carry a certain type of image that can attract either real car enthusiasts that love them for the mechanics/heritage/diversity or the theives/yobs who like them for the 10inch exhaust and dump valve!!
but if your scooby(with a decent alarm system) was parked next to a porsche/lotus/ferrari/lambo/aston then it still would probably not be the one they choose.

Strikes me that owners aren't helping matters either by not fitting trackers or setting house alarms when they leave keys around. Clearly if more cars are stolen (and not recovered) the insurers will ramp up insurance premiums. Sad but true
