EVO V Scooby top end. Why the huge difference?
hey people.
Just asking as i really want to know.
My Scooby STI8 reads up to 160mph on the clock
My friends EVO FQ320 reads up to 180mph on the clock
My top end from standard start on a 2 mile run is 149mph and really running out of steam
My mates EVO flys past that barrier and has done over 170mph.
Is it gear box ratios that we have th blaim? or is there another reason?
Which expert knows about this?

Hmmm..
I had the choice between the STI and the FQ320. I went with the STi on the final factor that i think the new age one looked better and it had a flat 4 burble.
It would appear that was the wrong decision, even after £5k worth of tuning it aint matching the FQ320. DOH....

Gearing, bhp and drag. Those are the main reasons why one would be faster than another.
If your mates EVO fly's past 170mph....... I would hazard a guess that it's running a bucketload more than 280bhp! Ooops sorry just read it was a FQ320...... personally I still dont believe a FQ320 would do over 170mph...... but I could always be wrong! Is it a FQ320 with a 450bhp engine! lol
Regards,
Shaun.

At the moment i believe its running about 340bhp and has plans to go 400bhp next month. But at the moment its almost standard.
Even with all my tuning it still pulls top in every gear better.

the main thing would be aerodynamics, that's why supercars are shaped as they are, though I can't see why the Evo would be any more aerodynamic than the Scoob

i have a 94scoob(love of my life) and my m8 has an evo6 i **** all over him in 1st 2nd and early 3rd then he comes past me changing in to 4th bareing in mind mine stands me at 8.5k inclueding buying it and his stands him at over 37k now i'm really not that bothered int might be quicker on the straight lines but where in the uk are these. where as on the back roads and normal country roads its a fun battle but the shiney red scoob seems to come out on top. i love my scoob and when i was looking for one 3 of my mates have evo's and were all saying buy an evo there more reliable much faster blardy blardy blar. I didn't now all of them have been in the garage one for a snap con rod (7k rebuild) one for a diff tight tw@t just bought to tyres. and the other need output shaft baerings (£1200).Mines still running sounds awesome and is allround a better buy.
don't moan about it if you want an evo sell up and buy one and i'll look forward to meeting you on the roads.
Not impressed when tghe 6's get beat by a car 7 years its junior
cheers scooby lovers

thought scoobies/evos were about acceleration-not flatout motorway driving. personally, if i was only interested in top end, id buy a big-engined BMW or Merc. Even a standard uk turbo will do 145mph which personally id rather see lower to 130mph but obviously because of lower gearing for better acceleration.

I can definately tell you from experience that Evos are ALOT more unreliable than Scoobies. With the temp being alot hotter out here, it really shows you what the better made cars are!
Even all the Performance Garages out here say Scoobs are much better!

I have an STI PPP 2002 and I cant imagine running out of steam at 149 mph, my car pulls like a train and never seems to stop.
The speedo most showing the 180 is normally kilometers converted for the UK market to show MPH that is all.

agree with this total espcially as the evo only came a uk car in late 6 if not 7 but i'm sure its very late 6's quote me if i'm wrong but i'm sure this is correct

Your right, the first 'official' Evo's imported into the UK by Mitsubishi UK were the EVO 6 (the best one!).

Guys..... this original question was not about the speedo's (or perhaps it was lol) or certainly what car is better than the other..... but the more interesting part is that it has now been stated that a 2ltr (I presume) EVO with 340bhp can get past 170mph, which is something I didnt think was possible. But as always, I am as all knowing as the next man.... not!

Shaun.
