I had a WRX Type RA (MY97) and it had no E/W, no E/M, no ABS (i found this out the hard way), no A/C (although i believe a few have this as a factory option). It was the absolute bear bones.... well worth it though as it went like stink

with the water spray, close ratio box, dccd and all the heavy bits gone these are awesome cars, i'd forget the RA limited though cos it hasn't got the trick bits the RA came with.

The Type-RA doesnt come with any trick bits surely?..... it was the cheapest car in the range; 10% cheaper than the equivalent WRX. The very early cars had a closed deck block and a 4.111:1 final drive but these were both lost on later models. The STI Type-RA,, available from 1995 onwards is slightly different of course.....

Why not go for an STI version 3/4/5. They have the air con, elec windows, abs, soundproofing etc. They do 0-60 in 4.5 secs with a top speed of 150mph. The RA will do it in 4.3 secs, but will run out of steam at around 130mph. They are still 4 door like the RA. One warning though, the earlier version 1 & 2 STI's only rev to 7,500 rpm and are actually not as fast as the version 3 STI. I have a couple of mates with later RA's and they are amazed that I keep up with them at all speeds. Mind you, the only way I could win for sure was when I went to 145mph! The version 1 & 2 STI RA, I have raced several times and several different cars one even had a full de-cat he couldn't beat me either. Also be careful as they did make an RA that was not the STI RA, much slower.
Whatever you get, I know you'll love it!

Mine's only a MY93 WRX-RA & I would hedge my bet's against most others upto 120mph easily.
Though saying that it's not standard, but not that far away

v2 STI RAs rev to 8300 as per STI3. Bigger intercooler and a few tweaks made the V3 slightly more torquey low down and a few extra bhp, although they both are officially 280PS.

Don't mean to argue, but I did masses of research before buying mine, including a host of test drives and rides in various models.

as said it was optional and apparently most took the option. RA a/c is a warm/cold heater except with an a/c button, whereas the 'proper' a/c had a temperature setting that it would maintain automatically.
