Default importing a car

i have decided to go it alone and import a 03 sti, i have paid for the car and already have the shipping departure date and expected arrival date. what do i do for collecting the car once landed???? do you have to pick it up on the day??? and do you have to pay the VAT and duty as soon as you pick the car up or do they give you a time period in which to pay ???? as i will have to get the car sva'd and other things done to it before i want it on the road

VAT and import duty will be payable before you take the car.

Steve; as usual with SN you have to seperate the wheat from the chaff..... Youll need to instruct an customs clearing agent. Tell me where its landing and I'll recommend someone to you.

Unfortunately there are a lot of chancers who'll quote you ridiculous charges to clear a single car. Its a common ruse to miscalculate the exchange rates and overcharge you for the carriage (where they pay it on your behalf and you settle with them) and for the Duties too.

As other people have mentioned, all Duties have to be settled before the car is released, but; its getting this done thats the issue.....

I'll send you a PM tomorrow with the best customs clearance company's contact details. Theyre the best firm that Ive ever used and their prices for 1-6 cars are extremely low.

If youve got all of the necessary papers then clearance should take a day Screech.....
