Just got my computer bk after having the modem fryed by a storm a couple of weeks ago,it was not plugged into the elec socket but was in the phone line,didnt no the charge could cause damage down the phone line,so i will be making sure its unplugged from now on.

Itd be easier to get a surge protector that incorportates a phone socket..... Available from PC W**** for not much; and probably available from somewhere else for a bit less if you have the time.....

Yep, before the days of broadband I lost two modems that way - now have a surge protector.
BTW, first time had the PC fixed under home insurance took 10 days, second time just got another modem and that was it - sorted.

Yeah been told to get one,never thought the charge would come down the phone line,everydays a school day

i have a surge protector that has input and outputs for the phone. had a choice of one with and one without telephone support, but when i heard the phone horror stories it didnt take long to choose.
