Default Scooby Stolen

.....and then recovered.

One evening this week 2-3 blokes smashed through the front door of my Mum's neighbours and grabbed the keys to the Impreza on the driveway and drove it off. This was in a quiet Cheshire village, at about 3am.

Apparently it was later recoverd as she had Tracker installed. The Police reckon they'd parked it up and waited to see if anyone came looking for it incase it did have Tracker. She's said she doesn't want the car back now though, it's put her off owning anything like that incase it happens again

This area used to be so quiet, you never heard of this sort of thing happening. We were even featured on Traffic Cops last week!!

I'm suprised that they didn't just remove the tracker. Trackers these days seem pretty useless because they are still so easy to find due to the fact that they can only fit them in a couple of places. Great idea but like most security measures these days there's an easy way around them

I have to admit that sometimes I think that if my car got stolen I'm not sure I would want it back.....might be something I think about next time the tracker subscription is due for renewal.

Problem is, some insurance companies insist on one being fitted.

I had a car stolen a few years ago and I would have preferred that they'd written it off into a wall killing themselves and no-one else rather than getting it back and I was only third party at the time.

It turned up 6 hours after I'd reported it missing and I still kept it for another year but it never felt right

I'm sure someone posted a very similar thread a month or two ago. An STi driver had his front door smashed in and they demanded his keys with menace, before driving off. Worrying.

I also wouldn't want to have mine returned to me if recovered, I'd prefer it was written off/never found.

I'd be the same, I'm glad I can hide my car away in the garage. I've had discussions about this sort of thing before and people always "hide your keys" or "sleep with them under your pillow" but to be honest, I'd rather they could find them easily if they've got the ***** to smash the front door in, God knows what they'd do if they couldn't find them!

Absolutely. I may love my car (some people say my relationship with my WRX is unhealthy!! ), I would prefer to keep my boyish good looks rather than have my face re-arranged protecting my keys!!!

That said, I do keep a wooden baton by my bed 'in case of emergencies'.

That theft is a bit too close to my home for my liking.

I'm not sure, I didn't even know my Mum's neighbours had one until I found out about the theft

OK, now im scared. I've been trying to sell my scoob for a couple of weeks and its been quite worrying as it is, in case anyone comes back to get it as Im on my own. Mind you I do keep my keys next to my bed in my handbag so if they came in my bedroom at night, Im sure they would soon be scared of!!! and thats not by the dog

That statement could come back and bite you in the *** if your car now does go walkabouts.

Believe it or not, some SN members do work in the insurance industry.

Mate of mine got his back door kicked in and demanded the keys to his Evo 8, he couldn't find them genuinely, but they thought he was messing em about, so they shot him in the knee.... His wife found em fortunately and they made off in it, he very nearly bled to death.....

He's getting better now, but needless to say, he don't want an Evo or anything else worth nicking anymore..... no car is worth dying for!

I guess she doesn't use RAC Trackstar then?! I've never encountered such a bunch of incompetent monkeys in my entire life, if my car ever goes missing I would hate to make the phone call to them as they seem incapable of doing the simplest things. If it wasn't for my insurance co insisting on a Tracker I wouldn't even bother.

has anyone been caught after breaking in to a house for car keys that anyone knows of...?

and were they done for burglary/aggravated burglary or just knocked off for twoc because they were only after the keys and nothing else...i could see it happening...

'but, your honour, i only broke in and threatened him/her with a knife because i wanted his car...its not like i was going to turn the place over...'
