Smile newbie signing in

Hi all,

I came across this site throu a mate and what a excellent site it is. He has recently bought a Impreza Sti and after a spin in it I am now addicted to the smile factor this car can give, so tomorrow I am going for a test drive in a 19000 miles 2004 Sti with performance pack, I also know it has a performance ind kit and exhaust but dont know what makes. The dealer is asking £19995 which is 5000 more than what I was prepared to pay for a WRX but he has offered me a cracking part ex price for mine. I have the feeling this price is alittle over the top and he knows a test drive will weaken me!! Are my feelings correct and is this too much??

Sorry if it's a long thread but I dont want to pay over the top when I am borrowing money.

PPP for that year= Ecutek'd ECU, Sports cat in the exhaust, uprated fuel pump and intercooler piping IIRC...stand to be corrected on this though!

More than you'd pay privately, but actually not a bad price at all for a dealer! If he's offered you a good PX on yours he's unlikely to budge on the price much, if at all.

The test drive will weaken you. It's a very quick car

Don't stretch yourself financially, these are EXPENSIVE cars to run, budget for insurance, PPP means a group 20 car becomes even more expensive to insure. If you're under 25 it's going to hurt!! PPP also need to be run on SUL petrol or it'll run poorly. If you scrimp on servicing expect big bills!!

Thanks for the reply new scooby. I have got my insurance down to £1700 fully comp. 28year old, 1 yrs no claims due to company car. I was expecting alot more. I know about expensive running costs but feel ok with it. I wouldnt service it except at the Subaru dealer and I have enquired on the costing of the 30,000 and 40,00 miles service as a insight. One thing I should add is I will be getting a run about say a escort estate td and use the sti at weekends. Is it over the top to pay that and leave it sat all week.
I enquired about fuel and he said 95 ron is fine but I've seen other thoughts on here about that.

Quite a few people -including me- have a scooby as a fun car rather than a daily runabout, only you can decide whether it's OTT to do this based on your circumstances.

95RON is NOT fine and the dealer should bloomin well know it! It'll run on it, but the ECU will retard the performance to account for the lower grade fuel. Why get a performance car and then put something in it that detracts from its performance? Most people have reported that a PPP car runs noticably rough on anything other than SUL. Mike Wood of Prodrive came on here and said that you could use 95, but don't expect the car to run anywhere near as well on it. Bloody dealers!

WHAT AN EXCELLENT CAR. WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING!!

Didnt realise they were so flexible, its like 2 cars in one. round town its flexiblity impressed me then put your foot down and at bout 3500 revs all hell breaks loose. Tremendous.

I didnt get a chance to open it up properly due it the 5pm traffic so I am going back on sat to take it over Saddleworth Moors as long as it doesn't get sold. Did notice thou it had misfire/hesitation when setting off.

Whats everyone else think of that price it's up for as it is gonna be the first Subaru I have owned? first registered 03/04 and it's not on the Subaru web site.

Big No No on the 95 RON it's gotta be 98 and Optimax if it's avb! if your dealer says other wise then he's not clued up much, it details it all inside your user manual.

Hope the test rive goes well M8, it did with me and i came away with a 2003 PPP STi for 16k :-)
