import vs UK
Hi there,
Can anyone tell me the differences between a brand new standard WRX (225 PS) being sold by the like of motorpoint and the cars being sold by UK Subaru dealers. There is about a GBP 3000 - 3500 price difference.
Thanks.
Martin.

Identical, apart from the bits added on arrival to the UK. Namely the Sigma M30 alarm and locking wheel nuts.
Of course, UK cars have other benefits which go some way to justifying the higher initial price. At the mo' you can have a free PPP worth £1600-2000, and some are still honouring the free 3 years servicing which could save another £1200ish. Then there's the 3 years Subaru Assist breakdown cover, and not forgetting that you won't have any undue hassle when/if you need help from a dealer (it is known for them to be a bit stroppy with warranty work on imports, even though it's a pan-european warranty registered and approved by IM ). With the new model on the horizon, some hard haggling could get you a UK car with all the benefits for a good price right now

Nothing at all except the above points AFAIK the Cyprus ones have no underseal, but worth the £3-4k saving IMHO.plan on going the Import route again myself, don't know if i should go for the 06 model or wait for the new 07, what a dilemma.

Mac, the 07 will be the same as the 06. Mike Wood of Prodrive dismissed the AutoExpress reports of a completely new model in 07, and said the revised 06 car will have at least a 2 year run, possibly a little longer.
Imports may work out slightly cheaper, but it is a close call when you factor in the points I made above.
ie. - £16,499 + £1600 for PPP (or similar should you want it) + £1200 for average 3yrs servicing) + £250-350 for 3 years AA (or similar) + £350 (maybe having to fit an alarm and wheel nuts) = £18,399. Considering most pay IRO £19.5k for a UK dealer supplied WRX, the difference isn't too large to give peace of mind and convenience. Of course, if you want to go your own tuning route and effectively ditch the warranty straight away, and use an independent for servicing, then they are an excellent idea

PS - Most dealers are offering free PPP or 3yrs servicing not both.

I'd be stretching myself to go for the GBP 15600 import to be honest. I had been looking at 2 year old cars for 11-12K and thought it made some sense to buy brand new as a possible alternative.
I'm still working in Dubai at the moment so i'm in no rush to buy.
Cheers for all the advice.
