I've got braided hoses all round on my scoob, bought about three years ago.......no probs at all.....................
If your brakes went on the front why did your rears not work when you pulled the handbrake up?

Common thing with Braided hoses, as they give no early indication of fatigue or pending failure like double skinned and corded rubber hoses that were orginally fitted.
Combined with that IMO quality standards differs greatly to OE spec rubber hoses, which makes me wonder what their intended life span or usage is. Certain hoses actually have braids that chafes into the inner tubing and wears it until it eventually splits (teflon coated braided hoses are supposed to address this). Also there are cases where the ends of the hoses are poorly crimped, where a light tug at the hose can actually cause the hose to pull completely off - not clever if it snags on something!
