hardwired speed camera detector installation
hello everybody, this is my first post after lurking around for quite some time, Ive finally bitten the bullet and purchased a 2004 model year STI.
The first thing I want to do is hardwire a speed camera detector into the car, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on the best one for this application. Also where do you think the best place to put it would be? Please bear in mind that I don't want to keep sukka padding it onto the window and plugging it into the cigarette lighter.
I would like to thank you very much in advance for any answers to this question.

Good choice on the car and Welcome.
I used part of a cigarette lighter extension kit from Halford, Maplin or places like that, Chopped off the end that would normally plug into the already fitted car cig lighter. Remove the centre console (do a search for this) and wired in the extension cig lighter to the car lighter. All this can be hidden under the center console, and now can use the wire that came with detector, Trail it under the dash to the desired location.
Optimal location depends on the detector and its features, if say got a laser attachment built in then ideally needs to be in the centre of the window screen, a remote laser then can be fitted anywhere. GPS detector then can be fitted pretty much anywhere it can get a decent signal.

if you dont want to stick it to your screen, then just get a magnetic phone holder from a car accesory shop (make sure you get 2 parts with it). Stick the small thin peice to the top of the dash and the larger mount to the bottom of the detector.
Then when you leave the car, whip it off and stick it out of sight.
Works a treat with my Snooper S4
