Im not hijacking this thread but i would be interested to know what you need to look for in a Subaru when buying one. Im too looking for a P1 / TYPE R (not sure yet) and i dont have a clue what im looking for ie, tell tail signs for a dog. I used to have an M reg Subaru Impreza WRX and from day 1 it kept juddering when it was cold mostly and when i put my foot down. I was told the head gaskets were on their way out so i got rid. I dont want to have this happen again!. Any advice i would be most grateful for as well being in the same position as scoobyrob.

Simple advice is if you see something you like, ALWAYS get an inspection from a specialist. Guys at prosport done an inspection on a 22b for me and I walked away from it. Looked alright to me, but was slated as a total dog in the report.

Best couple of hundred quid you can spend on a car.

Regarding the P1 that was inspected. Who are you buying from a garage or private? The car should be serviced and warranted for a few months from a garage.

There are still P1s around with subaru warranty left, Id get one of these, otherwise theres no point in buying one over a grey import, IMHO, unless it has a warranty. My old p1 has over a year left on the warranty and can be extended for another year

exactly true-especially with scoobys where turbo/engine/clutch can be costly and if you do not know you will be unhappy with big bill!
i presume all the big scooby specialists will do inspection at a cost-ie tsl/prosport/scoobyclinic a lot will depend on where in the country you are
