Hello, New To Scooby Net.
Hello all,
New to Scooby Net, my names Chris and i just thought i would introduce myself!. Im currently a member of ClioSport also which is a good forum but seeing as though im in the process of selling my ClioSport and trying to decide which Scooby to buy i thought it would be beneficial to speak to someone on here who knows about them!.
Im in the process of looking for a Subaru, i was fancying a P1 on something like an X reg or something like that, is this the best Subaru to go for for the money? was looking at spending about 14 / 15 k on one. Can anyone give me some advice as there are so many different models out there i dont know what is what.
Any help would be most appreciated.

That the exact one you need, you see the P1 was based on the version 5 sti but "softened" for the british roads. The sti's have a harder harsher ride than a P1 and slightly different gearing also,

My IMHO is that depending on what you want from a car they are each better than the other in different ways. Its a bit ignorant to say one version is better than the other and leave it at that.
Ive owned a typeR version 5 and I chopped it in for a P1 after about 8 months. i kept the P1 for 4 years when i brought it brand new. if its an everyday drive in all weather conditions, and things like subaru warranty , better fuel economy and a more confident drive are your thing then the p1 is the way to go. Youll probably see an extra 50 miles per tank in the P1 on motorways due to the taller gearing.
If its a second car, youre a very good driver or you want a track weapon the the typeR may be more suited to your needs.
The P1 has the power 50/50 split to both front and back permanent. This makes the car very good point to point on our roads with our weather. The typeR (34% 64%) was more crash bang suspension and was crap for B roads I found. To get the best out of a typer you really do have to be a good driver, whereas the P1 is quite flattering to the driver. You can switch things around with a switchable dif to make things less tail happy.

Many Tjanks for all this advise its really appreciated and helping a great deal. I am a good driver but im going from having a Clio Sport 172 (02) to having a rapid car and i think it will take me a while before i get used to a scooby again anyway from my almighty Renault!!!. To be quite honest im looking towards the P1 due to the shear looks of it, i dont know why but it tends to look nicer and meaner to me. Also im one for individuality and there are no P1's where i live in Newcastle or none that ive seen. Ive looked on the AutoTrader and the nearest one to me for sale is Keighly Trade Centre near Skipton which is about 73 miles away.
Do you guys think its worth buying a P1 from a Subaru Garage so i can maybe haggle some warranty out of them>? Also if i do buy from a Subaru Dealer do you still think its worth obtaining an RAC investigation??

Buying from a subaru dealer will probably cost a little more. But AFAIK they come with at least 1 years proven warranty. I would feel a little better buying from a subaru dealer, but they mark their cars by up to 3k more than what the poor bloke who traded it in. Watch out for "specialist" subaru dealer, I had a right **** experience with one, and I nearly ended up with a wreck.
The route id go down is to find a private seller, with bags full of history and warranty remaining. A good place to start is
www.p1woc.co.uk
This is the P1 owners forum and theres usually cars for sale on there. It is worth travelling to find the best cars, even if its 200 miles away, thats only a couple of hours to travel. Obviously there is less comeback with a private seller, but youll probably be able to get the car much cheaper and be able to haggle more.
Things to look out for are the WR accessories that could be ordered with the car. IE. 18" wheels, electric recaro heated seats, P1 back box, Alcon brake up grade etc. TBH a lot of P1s have had brake upgrades, I used to have a TSL 6 pot upgrade. The alcons I thought were very expensive and the price for replacement discs were whopping.
If you want to locate any official UK subaru cars at a dealers for sale, go to
www.subaru.co.uk
and click on their approved cars.
