How does 2003 JDM STI compare to 2005 UK STI PPP?
I drove a 2005(or is it 2004 - the one with the wider track and DCCD) STI PPP Type UK at the weekend and i was totally blown away by it (currently drive 2003 WRX PPP with Decat). The thing that struck me most was the handling. It was totally planted and DCCD really made it fun to drive.
However current funds wont stretch to a new STI so i was wondering is a 2003 JDM STi the same when it comes to handling? I know that substantial changes were made to the suspension of the 2005 STI Uk compared to the 2003 STI UK , but someone mentioned that it was just the same as a 2003 STI JDM. Can anyone comment?
Thanks
Steve

In my opinion the only thing that may be a very slight disadvantage is the lack of wider track and lack of the wider tyre on the 2003 JDM. I have a 2003 Spec C and that (as the other JDM MY03> STi's have) includes the DCCD-A as well.
If you don't mind the slightly harder ride of the Spec C (and I do mean slightly), than either the Spec C or a normal JDM STi is the one to go for. The engine is so much better than the UK equivalant and you get the better spec cars as well. It's win win tbh.
Some may prefer the "official" support with a UK model and if so, that is fine and as such a JDM model may not be an option.
Regards,
Shaun.

It also felt like the Uk spec had an Lsd on the rear, does the JDM have this too?
Thanks for your help,
Steve

As far as I am aware the LSD is also on the JDM cars.

It turns out that the 2005 sti suspension setup is based on the Spec-c, no wonder i thought it handled so well. So it seems a standard 2003 JDM sti might not be as good in terms of handling. Can anyone comment?

Its not all the suspension thats based on the Spec C's, just the arms/bars etc which are thicker, the rest of the suspension has nothing in common with the Spec C which STILL has its own but you need to compare the 2 cars together, there will be a couple at LADS on sunday ( www.ladsoc.co.uk ) near haslingden (should be some directions there).
