TOTB results and feeling "smug"
anybody else feeling a bit smug due to the AWSOME subaru efforts??
the other make boards were kinda warned to take notice of the advances in subaru tuning but i think they tended to disregard the advice
i would have loved to have been there to see there faces with todays amazing 1/4mile times
well done lads
we did not win
but i bet every other front running team is shatting there pants for next year allready

It was mighty impressive seeing Gulli first do a 10.4, then 10.04 and finally the 9.96 run which made it the first 2.0 Impreza to run be under 10secs on the 1/4 mile (thats what the announcer said anyway)
Shame he didn't qualify for the handling challenge though.
He had 1 single go at it 5 mins before the cut off...and over shot the stopping box after giving it WOT across the finish line. He would have been in the Top 10 with that run I think.
Paul B was very impressive...despite early breather pipe probs.
Shame about Andy F also. He and Paul B started things off on the drag strip. Both did stunning 10.4 sec runs...but Andy F lost his Centre Diff and didn't run for rest of the day.
But Team Subaru I think had a top day with David W, Bob R, Paul B, Gulli, Lateral P car, the Scoobyclinici Car all performing.
TOTB itself....hmmm not sure if they have improved enough really.
Results reporting was DIABOLICAL. 2 pages of A4 on a board. Why can't a big screen be used?
Grandstand....was that it?
Instant results display...was only facing the peeps on the Grandstand side. Why have a BIG SPECTATING area on the right when you don't show them the results then?
Trade Area....wasn't really a trade area at all!
Toilets were an improvement and didn't risk the catering this year as bought me own stuff instead.
Seemed to have less people at it this year though compared to last.

Amazing, I was hoping to hear about a pulsar getting into the 10's for the first time (still haveb't heard yet) and here a scoob got into the 9secs ffs!
On the totb organisers front, if it was really that bad regarding results etc, then there's no chance they are ever going to improve after 4 goes now, someone should organise a different proper pro event, setting new rules for different categories and hosting it over 3 days just in case of rain.

Ceramic coating? Could be, I thought it was the exotic fuel mix eating the stainless finish
well done all the Scooby lads, did us proud. Haldor's car is awesome. IIRC, his handling run was low 33's but red flagged for overshooting the stop box.
Have to agree with the coments above, needs better results reporting. Good commentators, but would be good to see an electronic leader board.
The one thing that would improve the event would be restrict the number of people watching the final drag runs from inside the fenced area. By the time you had 10 people from each team plus photographers, film crews and presenters, the paying public can't see a thing. Poor show if your paying £15 or £20.
Otherwise, very enjoyable day, thanks to everyone who made it happen.

Great to see all the different cars there, the noise out of those Vipers was impressive, what was going on with that Skyline which sounded like a Military Tatoo every time it went down the strip?
Agree with the comments about the need for good big displays for 1/4 mile runs, circuit times and overall leader positions. We weren't sure who or what were where, sure it would get more involvement from the crowd if they knew the standings of each competitor?
Think I'll have to get the new TOTB DVD when it comes out..
By the way, anyone know any info about the spec of that Ford Granada, great to watch and fast..

The Granada did a 184mph top speed and an 11.5s 1/4, the handling time was fast but not top ten - beat a couple of much more serious cars.
It belongs to Stevie turbo and has a big block V8 in it that is supercharged. I know that Stevie was hugely happy at the end of the day with a MASSIVE smile on his face. He came over from Northern Ireland with the the black legacy which did an 11.2s 1/4m and 170+ in the top speed. Great effort from a real DIY team

Didn't they have an Electronic Board last year?
Apart from the General running/Facilities at the even't this year. It was nice to see Goalposts have been moved in the performance stakes. With the Scoobies making the most effort.(Knocking a second off last year!).
Managed to catch Gullys' 9.97s run. (Did he post a 9.93 next time round?).
Have to say. Did enjoy the Granada. Pure "Old School".

Did anyone see the Granada doing it's practice run on the handling circuit? At the first left hander he gave it loads of gas pedal, lit the back wheels and went well sideways while banging off the rev limiter (caught it though! ). Next time around he was a bit gentler in that section! Comment of the day from some lad next to me in the crowd while watching the Granny do the quarter mile: "**** me, that's got some power for a 2.8!"

I had a great day, my first time there. Have to admit you can see areas where there can be great improvement. Spectator viewing was pants really, surely a grandstand cant cost that much to hire and can fit 20 times more in than the current one??? I'll back up the results thing, didn't have a clue what was going on and who was where! But all in all me and the other half had a great day, had a good chat to one of tha lads from Roger Clark about their car. £150,000 if you want one the same Engine is £70,000 too if you want one!
Looking forward to an improved TOTB V next year,
Gav..

It was a fantastic dat I thought, but as said above, it was hard to get the results. But for my first time there, I will definately be back, really enjoyed it and the 5 hour drive to get the boat afterwards!

Had a great day out at TOTB4 , atleast you could hear the results this year, much better than last year!
As for the seating issue i had a chat with Chris Mann and there was a big terraced grandstand booked to be there but they were let down by the suppliers.
Phone call on sat went something like this.
'CM where is my grandstand, its getting quite late now?'
'Supplier dont worry there is loads of time left, it isnt till next weekend right?'
OH ****!
And as for this comment
You would not believe how much a grandstand costs to hire, for one that conforms to all the relevant health and saftey rubbish (that you have to have for the paying public to sit on it) you are looking at anywhere inbetween £10-£15 per seat.
Also sceens for time reporting have been looked into as well but the only way to do it outdoors so you can see it is LED video wall, which when the stuff costs £10,000 per sqaure foot to buy (for the crap stuff), you can guess at the rental cost.
It's fookin astronomical!
All in all i think Chris Mann and the straightliners team put on a great event and i'm sure it will improve steadily over the years, it's very easy to sit behind a computer screen and criticise and trust me what he is doing is not easy or cheap!
Dan.

From a competitors point of view, I thought it was much better. The marshalls in the queueing lanes really kept things moving, queues were minimal considering how many cars were running

as above, we were let down on the grandstands, 2 of the 3 booked simply did not arrive :-(
this will of course be rectified for future, as will any other issues, and we have asked for feedback to be given if possible, to help us achieve that. we did put an awful amount of effort into improving matters. visible displays and instant scoring updates are another " big must do"
cheers
chris and the totb team

My one and only complaint about the day, which is hard to address. Is about the hundreds of idiots in the queuing area, when trying to move about the place. Dont they understand, that when they hear a car coming behind them, as they are loitering about, that its wise to move ?? I know people who simply drove into them, to get them to move out of the way.
