Default bloeye / bugeye ?

Hi,

Ive been reading about the differences in performance between a "bugeye" and a bloyeye" wrx.

Can someone tell me what year blob eyes were introduced - can you buy a 2002 plate blobeye or are they all 2003+ models.

Also is it true that blobeyes have 225bhp against 215bhp for a bugeye

I'm looking for a scoob soon - would it be worth saving up a little bit more and try and go for a blobeye over a bugeye - i have between 10-12K.

Cheers.

Depends what you read - I've seen blobeyes quoted at 217 and bugeyes at 221...

TBH you'll gain a lot more than 10bhp with a decent exhaust, so don't let it worry you - just find the best for the money.

Depends wether you like the looks of the bugeyes or not. Don't forget the bugeye STI has different front lights which look ace (and I drive a blobeye). Also the front wings are smoother on the bugeyes which I prefer.

Most of the quoted discrepancies in power seem to be as a result of people not using the same units of measurement. Some quote in PS while others use BHP. IIRC the blob makes about 7 BHP more than the bug.

Early blobs are available on the 52 plate, although these are technically MY 03 models.

Also note that the Blob is slightly heavier than the bug (about 20kgs I believe), but again that depends on where you get your data from.

Thanks guys,

Tbh i quite like the look of bug eyes, it seems that with a nice exhuast there shouldnt be much difference in power and as Jamesemt said its probably best to find a nice car for the money.

Does anyone have any views on quality exhausts, i'm looking for something that wont wake up the neighbours but will give a nice boxer growl and some boost to performance, afterburner full pack any good ?

Do full systems still pass MOT's ok?

Main difference is the up-pipe cat in the bug eye (replace it with a slip joint uppipe)

And I believe the cylinder compression is up .5 on the blob ( low down power up 30 % )

Meaning slighty more power and slightly more drivable

otherwise not much in them.

Both are not beautiful cars, but then neither are classics.

So... forget the looks and get the newest you can afford (it'll be worth it when you eventually come to sell)

Happy hunting..

The 05 Blobs differ from the 03-04 ones too. Red calipers are the obvious giveaway, but they have different suspension (similar to the STI) and a better quality interior.

I have MY05 Blob on a 54 plate.

buy what you like and can comfortably afford to run mate. Simple as that! Do remember that these are NOT cheap cars to own and run properly -and run them properly you must!

If you're planning to mod then the marginally different baseline power outputs between the two models are largely redundant anyway! :-)

Do you mean it's a slightly more restrictive cat on a bug eye? I've got a blob eye and was under the impression that I have an uppipe cat...just bought an uppipe replacement as well...
