Go to Wild Wadi in Dubai (near the Burj) - fantastic way to spend a day - but wear a tee-shirt else you will burn to a crisp .. painful memories

In Hong Kong, you are looking to get off at the Mongkok underground station on the Kowloon side -mainland China (it's by far the best way to travel around HKG - fast, clean, regular and cheap), and head towards Sai Yee Street then down towards Kwong Wah Hospital. The area you are looking for to do with car stuff is just north of the hospital. As others have mentioned, some bargains can be had in Hong Kong, but some things are very expensive (stuff thats made over there is cheap, stuff made in Europe is fortunes, it's a no-brainer really). Whilst at the Mongkok area, go a wander down Ladies Market, so so quality fake shirts etc, but unbelievably cheap, and ALWAYS HAGGLE. I got a Subaru shirt for £5 (H$70). The stereos are very cheap, but have no RDS (big deal), and do work on British frequencies (unlike Jap stereos).
Also in the area of the Car shops are model shops if you like that sort of thing (I saddly do), which seem to have model kits of just about every Subaru ever made, even the latest 2005 WRC kit by Tamiya, here it costs £26, over there it's about a tenner. Same area, you can get Radio Control cars, proper Kyosho racing units that start at £400 here, start at £150 over there.
I can't remember if it was at Mongkok or one stop up at Prince Edward, there was a massive computer area that sold almost anything for computers. Everything seemed to be cheap, but I know zip about computers except how to get on the internet. I did get a good price on the latest Sony PSP there back in January.
Last bit of buying advice is to not buy fake handbags or watches from the stalls, find someone who will take you to a hidden shop if you want such items (they will show you pictures on the stalls but keep no merchandise there), as the quality on the stalls is shocking compared to the "hidden" stuff.
If you are going out drinking, I advise going to either Lan Kwai Fong on Hong Kong Island(lick my thong when you are pissed) or my personal favourite, the Central area on Honk Kong Island. The easiest way to this is to ask a taxi to take you to Joe Bananas (but don't go in there), and head to Kublai's Mongolian Restaurant (2 floors abve Ebeneezers Kebab shop), then find a bar until midnight and head into "Dusk til Dawn" ( think it's on Jaffe Road, but I'm usually falling down by that point). Eating in Hong Kong is cheap, drinking is not (about £4-£5 a pint).
I know all this because my wife is an Air Stewardess for British Aiways, and I've been there too many times for the good of my bank balance.
What ever you do, enjoy yourself and have a fabulous time
Craig

Have a couple of nights at the Tanjung Rhu resort in Langkawi...absolutely fantastic. Get an all inclusive deal (about £25 pp per day for the food which is outstanding). Access to all menus at all restaurants for this where meals would be about £50 per head plus if not all inclusive. Easily the best resort we've ever been to in spectacular beach surroundings. The bay is like that bond movie with Oddjob...you know the one!

Tuning parts of Japanese or Asian origin are much cheaper than in UK, least of all there's no VAT in HK, so 17.5% of the price goes straight off. European brands are more expensive than Jap brands, but prices are coming down. If u're brave enough, & have someone who's local to take u around, goto Kam Tin in the New Territories. 99.99% of all scrap & breakers' yards are there. There are many yards that specialises in 2nd hand tuning bits, & quite a lot of them are from write-offs imported from Japan. As always, buyer beware, but there's a contigent of African blokes who roams around that area buying up parts to export back to their home countries.
New parts & car hi-fi, then it's Mongkok. Some brands do have RDS (as all radio stations here have RDS), but a lot of them don't. As said b4, hobby goods are probably the cheapest in the world. Kits are on avg 10-20% cheaper than the cheapest price in Japan. Computers & electronics, Mongkok is fine (remember, don't bother with those shops that's located on Nathan Rd near Tsim Sha Tsui, esp. those that has 'Tax Free' written all over the front, there ain't no tax in HK), but the cheapest place for computers is Golden in Sham Shui Po. Also visit Ap Liu St in that area. Again a street market that specialises in electrical goods (e.g. components, hi-fi etc.).

Remember, that if you bring anything back more than £145, make sure you conceal it well, unless you want to pay tax getting it back to the UK (you might struggle to get a WRC bodykit past customs).
Sham Shui Po- that's where I got my PSP, at the Golden Computer Market.
