Default Wagon with Rattling Boot Lid

Hi

Someone please help me before I go out of my mind!!!

I have a 00 wagon. When driving along the boot lid rattles. I have checked the inside to check for any loose bolts etc, and nothing, so I can only assume that the boot lid is rattling on its catch!

Has anyone else had or got this problem? Does anyone have a cure for this??

Please help!!!

On the inside of the tailgate, there should be 2 rubber "towers". You can screw these in and out (by hand). Screw yours (fine tune) out until the rattling stops, but do it evenly

Tall Paul ............ after 5 years I finally worked out the cure!!

Wrap some insulating tape around the hoop (on the top bend on the U) - 3 times round should do it ...... you will be amazed!!

I undid the rubber mounts on the sides and they meet up with the boot lid rubber mounts. More secure fit, no more rattles. Mind you I will also try the tape around the latch to make double sure!

Cheers all

The side rubbers didn't work for me ......... the tape did.

I clearly remember when you did this procedure, remember Mr ****??

1. Obtain special fibre inpregnated insulating tape of 15 microns thick.

2. Soak tape overnight in resin, whilst playing the theme tune to The Deer Hunter.

3. Remove 50.87864563492mm of tape .... this is absolutely essential you said .... remember sending it to NASA for them to get it spot on??

4. Wrap tape around hoop, once clockwise and twice anti-clockwise, at a speed of one circumference per 16.345 minutes!

Now, as you say, I just bodged it ............ grabbed a length, wrapped it around and started driving - rattle free!!

Are you a happy ****??

Pete

Tape works, i put tape on mine, it saved fannying about, no one sees it and the rattle has gone. As i see it PS Lewis and i were offering some easy practical advice.

Maybe pissing about with screwdrivers and adjusters is easier though.
