Yipppeeeeee! My MY99 UK passed its MOT with flying colours yesterday, and Ive not long had my Decat Downpipe fiited. All's Ive got is a resonated centre section. Have you had the car remapped?
I tried a back-to-back test last year with and without a CAT and it was nowhere near passing. Yours is the first MY99 I've heard passing without one.

Fact 1 - It cannot possibly pass, legally, without any CAT in place!!
That is a fact of life ..................... or, clearly, EVERYONE would be de-catting their cars and the Catalytic Convertor manufacturers would go out of business!
So, congrats. on passing, but please don't think the emissions are legal - they aren't!

I was told that after the Scoobs warm up, they pass emissions quite easily. If I'm wrong, then I've been told wrong, but hey, who gives a f**k, I've got an MOT Certificate for 12 months

Do you still have the up-pipe cat though? - if you do it will still pass
MOT impection does incorpertae a visual inspection of the condition of exhaust system - including cats...but seeing both up-pipe and down pipe cats are covered by both heatshields and the undertray - visual inspection to see if they actually exist is "difficult" And the centre section cat doesn't have to exist (PPP etc. ). It's down to the Tester to know what "should" be there - more often than not they do not know where the cats or what cats should be fitted in the exhaust (or could esily forget for a few drinks)
It is possible to get certain cars through - zetecs running 100% spot on (rare ) will pass easily without cats, as do a few other engines. Scoobs passing without cats (not pre '96 import ) is very very rare - I can manage to pass the fast speed idle, but it all goes to pot at natural idle - closest I've been is 0.5%CO good without cats...but not good enough for an MOT.

My MY98 used to go through with no cats, when VERY warm! My 5 Type R doesnt stand a hope in hell (and takes enough buggering about with to pass with the downpipe cat in!) AFAIK, a MY99 will not have an up-pipe cat!

I have a MY00 UK turbo, with a Magnex decat downpipe and a Scorpion b/box, but it still has the centre section cat intact. Mine passed the MOT ok, and when I asked him about the decat, he said that as long as the centre cat is still in place, the car is legal. Won't get so much out of her as I would with a full decat, but at least it saves the hassle of changing the pipes every time, and she still goes very well!!

It sounds like the centre CAT is still there but if not I'm very suprised it pass legally. I'm sure a fair few pass without CAT's but just don't ask which car was actually tested for the emissions at the time!

Mines run in now with new VF-34 and 550 injectors and forged everything.
That stinks like buggery after a good ripping!!!
Nothing like a good thrashing at night then looking under the bonnet to see everything glowing like hell!

Ha Ha Ha I love this place ........ bollox spoken nightly!
If a car passes an MOT without any CATS whatsoever then its a faulty MOT!!
Thats a FACT by the way, as I said earlier!!

Bit of a stress bunny today, aren't we?
If you look at my post you'll see one of these at the top. That's a hint that I wasn't being entirely serious, ********.
For a more considered approach; there is no way a scoob with no cats (like mine, for instance) would pass the emissions unless there was something wrong with the machine or with the car as scoobs, like most turbo cars, run rich as a safety measure against det.

To be able to fail it - tester "must" know where the cats are on that particular make and model car (most don't - simply too may different cars exist to memorise every specific detail) and be able to tell the difference between what is cat or just a silencer - not to forget the heatshields hiding the down pipe cat

without any CATS fitted am i right in thinking that your insurance would be invalid? was thinking a while ago of having a full de-cat but the thought of having not a leg to stand on in the event of a claim kinda put me off!
