Stop being so lazy

Some thoughts about the fuel crisis
Yes petrol is expensive but cheap fuel means we are able to be more wasteful of it e.g. Look at the cars in the USA early 70's before the fuel crisis. They had huge thirsty engines. For an example of this in the UK just hang around a private school around 4pm and wait for all the 4 litre AWD off roaders arrive to pick up their children, many of which wont get more than 15 mpg around town.
People use their cars at the drop of a hat: for 1 mile journeys, to got to the shops 3 times per week when once would do etc. The fuel crisis has forced these lazy people to think twice.
Why cant people use their bikes/walk for short journeys? It may reduce some of the obesity in this country. One woman on the news complained because her husband made her walk a mile to buy a light bulb when she wanted to use the car!!!!!!!!!
If we reduce the use of our cars maybe we wont f*** up the environment so quickly.
I know I am a hypocrite driving an Impreza Turbo, but I use it rarely in the week. I ride my bike for journeys under 3 miles. I just think we should just think before we jump into our cars.

Very good point brooks.
The example you gave about picking up school kids is a great one. If you were to give them a 1.6 litre engine in the same car, they wouldnt know the difference. That really annoys me.

Something like 90% of LandRover type 4WDs sold in cities are never used off the roads - they are just status symbols.
Huge diesel engines - worse for the environment but make mummy and daddy look like they're well off when they go to the PTA meetings and do the school run.
It has been so refreshing to see people walking to schools this week. Roads are less clogged, less pollution, etc.
Maybe they should stop the pumps more often.
