Look for a good Sport model for now. Insurance won't be too high.

Go for a wagon, the insurance is no cheaper but they are more stealth and some if not the quickest scoobs in the country are wagons. Plus it keeps you out of the CHAV Scoob brigade. Here's a wagon for ya....mine.http://photobucket.com/albums/y79/we.../scooby002.jpg

And classic wagons are becoming a bit of a cult scooby now.

I agree, I got a nice standard uk wagon for under 4k, very pleased, good insurance and hold value better than imports a they seem to be rarer and tend be less abused and theyre cheaper on insurance and ive been told, more reliable....imports are faster but its harder to find a good one...Ive had import cars and you just dont get the same reassurance as uk spec motors. My two pence..oh and when youre in the car you wont notice the 'estate' bit too much....matter of opinion, i think they look better.

Welcome to SN

I hate to be a merchant of gloom, but you won't be able to insure the car on your parent's policy legally if you're actually going to be the main driver of the car. So to drive it legally, you'll be looking the thick end of 2K.

Also, you MUST budget for servicing and running costs. These aren't cheap cars to run and will cost you dearly if you neglect them!

Personally I think there are better introductory performance cars to be had for a young un' on a budget.

Regards,

Looks like a nice turbo replica mate, but I've always thought there was something a bit naff about a sheep in wolfs clothing and I'm afraid as sooon as people see that spoiler, it's like a red flag to a bull!

Have you considered an Astra 2.2 SRi Had one of those as a hire car. Was generally very impressed. Peach of an engine, tidy handling. Cause its a vauxhall, you should be able to pick up a very nice 2nd hand example for not a lot of dough! Also, its group 12 insurance, so considerably cheaper than a scooby. Bit more stealthy too!

I had a toyota starlet gt turbo before my scooby, very fast 0-60 6.8 secs, 1.3i 16 v dohc turbo, 133 bhp and 115bhp on low boost (adjustable as standard) cos theyre imports only they have a high spec.....a/c etc, decent on fuel, very reliable and very quick of the mark and quite rare.....as well as being highly tunable..you can pick up a good gt for about 3k or the newer more desirable 'glanzas' for about 4kish these are really rare!! They hold their value well especially glanzas...I bought one (gt) for £2150 and sold it for £2500 seven months later!

Nice motor but once you've had it a few months you'll be gutted that you dint by a turbo trust me!!!

At least when you've got a turbo and you get bored of the performance you just think right !!! New intercooler, bigger turbo............. + remap. if you by a sport you will always want a turbo.

Think about it. You know you want the bonnet scoop!!!!

I've seen 2 UK Turbo wagons go through Trafford Park Auction last month. One was an S reg and went for £2700 the other was an N reg and went for £2500.

Just need to look in the right places mate and UK's are miles cheaper to insure!!!!

Heple.
