Picked up my new WRX PPP today. What's the situation re idling the engine before turning off to stop the turbo 'frying'. Do you need to do this every time or only if you have driven it hard? Your advice would be welcome. Cheers.

If you just been poodling then 30 secs will do no harm

If been ragging it 2-3 mins will do the trick

I got into the habbit of leaving it running while i put stereo face etc away, by the time you done this everything fine

I try to take it easy for the last couple of minutes of my journey...then just leave it running while the Stereo / steerring lock / get my stuff together is done.

Usually try and give it a minute on normal round town runs and upto 2 minutes when i've just come off the motorway.

Apparently, driving the car off boost for the last few minutes of your journey is as good as letting it idle. I usually do both to be honest, but at the very least I give it time to idle. As cookstar says, once you've got the stereo face off and your steering lock sorted etc, its not like its much hassle.

Don't forget to warm the car up properly before extending it too! This is very important. The coolant temp guage is NOT an indication of when the oil is up to operating temps -it takes considerably longer!
