in answer to your question.. batteries are sealed. but the covers are there for a reason. why take them off just so you can see the engine? FFS, just open the bladdy bonnet!

what is the point of haveing bonnet vents and not useing them ????
increases the air flow through the rad/front and helps keep things cool !!!
all the early models/imports have them as std
the battery top up covers have got rubber seals on so should be ok ??

yes, maybe so. but all the newer models have them. must be a good reason why, s'all i'm saying. must provide more protection for the engine and such. your battery should be totally airtight, so should be ok tho.

if not, i'm sure someone else will tell you i'm wrong.(blame the boyf)

agreed - the bonnet vent covers are there for a reason. Put em back IMHO.

This is a joke right? Please tell me this is a wind-up. It's a battery, not a bleedin' bucket!

If you're serious you shouldn't be allowed near a car. If you're joking, nice one - you'll get a few biters on here

As for the cosmetic/performance issues of taking the covers out. You'll soon find out what happens the first time it rains.

Okay, that sounds fair enough then. I haven't got a Scoob myself but I (wrongly) assumed that this state of the art bit of Japanese kit would have a modern, maintenance free battery.

Apologies for sounding sarcastic but your post came across as a wind-up.

Removing the vents is a big no no if you have an induction kit fitted. As you drive, all the hot air from the engine bay gets dragged straight past the filter

Removing those covers has been identified as a major contributor to dramatic MAF Sensor failure and therefore Engine Piston Number 3 Melt-Down and a £3000 Engine Rebuild!!

It happens within seconds ..... only a CockLink can save you now!!

With a CockLink installed you can leave them off, remove the battery completely, drain the engine of all fluids, remove the road wheels and all will still be A1 OK!!

The nearside one on my 93 import has a gap built in to the cover, which means the battery tray is constantly full of water. Great idea...

I have removed the one on the drivers side. Left the other one as its above the battery and electrical connections.

Should be noted that I run a CAK and if you're running an induction, the filter temps may increase during standstill as the vent can cause a chiminey effect, drawing air towards the filter side of then engine.

A failed maf will in most cases show itself with an uneven idle, a failing maf is much harder to spot. If you have a maf which is failing gradually then the ecu will be compensating for it - so if you did an ecu reset, then the car will probably run like a bag of ****e once you fire it back up
If you have any concerns about it i would change it for peace of mind. I changed mine 2 years back due to mine "failing" and i will be sticking another on this year for my own peace of mind

AFAIR this is due to the much debated 'chimney' effect..!
