MY03 Sluggish/hesitation
I've had my MY03 Wagon WRX (no mods) about 2 months now and comparing it with the memories of my classic it feels a lot more sluggish upto 3000 rpm . I know the new age cars don't feel as rapid and don't give you the kick in the pants that the clasics do , but quite honestly until she gets to about 3000 rpm I may as well be driving a metro !which gets a bit tricky when your pulling out on a busy roundabout etc. Apart from wrecking the clutch every time by revving it and dumping the clutch would you say it's the norm or does it sound as though something is a miss somewhere ?
Thanks for any input

Wagon WRX would be the heaviest and lowest powered turbo model. Is that right ?
227 hp [217 lb/ft] and 1450 kg's. I think. The Classic only had slightly less power at 207 hp but weighed 1235kg which is very light for an AWD car. So your current car is 156 bhp / tonne and the classic is 167.6 bhp / tonne. Not a lot in it, but as you say a touch more sluggish.
The hot weather, and maybe a poor batch of fuel may have effected things for you recently ?

How on earth would you do that? Its a turbo charged car and your not going to get it to go low down im afraid. Nice thought but aint gonna happen.

sorry, didn't know you were the authority on such things, it was a suggestion.
The VAG turbo engines usually start pulling from about 2k, my Volvo T4 started pulling about 2250.
The point at which the torque kicks in is going to be dependant on when the turbo spools up. Whether you can dictate at which point this happens, I don't know but it would be worth looking into.
Perhaps comparing dyno maps for standard and modified cars?

agree with that
mapping will give you more torque across the range which should help a little.
I must concede, I have found no mod to date which causes the turbo to come on boost at any lower rpm, but as above the more you have below the threshold the better.
Here's me speaking like an expert but I haven't even picked my car up yet.
What is the rpm at 70 in 5th?

Thanks for the replies all , so it looks like its a case of always run on 98 ron and give the clutch a bad time or get ppp or equivalent then . I just don't remember my classic having such a dead spot , but I guess it was lighter as you say .

yep yep, i had a seat leon cupra before my new 05 wrx wagon (non ppp), and although the leon's turbo would spool up from virtually no revs at all, my scoob doesn't really get going until 3000 rpm either...thing is i still preffer the scoob as when the power does come in, it's much more satisfying than the linear (and slightly boring) power delivery of the VAG unit.
i find pulling away in first fine from low revs, it's when the revs drop in second that it really suffers...
i guess you pays ya money...

Even With ppp on my 05 wagon i get this especially in hot weather
That and for reasons of space my next scooby will be a Legacy spec B
I took one for a spin and got the shock of my life when i planted the throttle at the nearest junction No Lag at all
Iwouldnt be surprised if the spec C is faster to thirty than My 03 wagon

They really are amazing launched off the line properly.
