Default f1 stylee blowouts

Has anybody experienced any f1 style blowouts at high speed?
Perhaps on the motorway?
Friend of mine had one the other day, shockingly enough on a michellin tyre!

Yep, twice..

Once in a 2.3 V6 Granada; Front OS Pirelli blew on the motorway at about 95. Didn't even realise what had happened, I just felt and heard what sounded like a brick bouncing off the underside of the car. Pulled onto the hard-shoulder because it 'felt a little weird' and almost fainted ( ) when I saw the state of the tyre. There was nothing left of the sidewall.

Second time in an Audi Coupé (2.2) from about '85. Again on M27, lane 2, doing about 75. The FNS tyre blew and the car lurched uncontrollably across the road towards the hard-shoulder. Fortunately there was nothing in lane 1 because I wasn't stopping. Finished up half on the hard shoulder, half off the tarmac altogether. Jumped out, fitted space-saver and continued on my way. That was on a Firestone Firehawk.

I was a backseat passenger in one - ancient 1.6 Ford Cortina on remolds, but we didn't find that out until later - 5 in the car on M1 at 70 (almost flat out), rear tyre blew, did about 720deg spin before ending up nose on the verge, rear wheels on hard shoulder. Shouldn't need to be said on Scoobynet - Never use remolds on the road.

I been a bit lucky, mine all went down slowly.(toyos)......all tho one was gettin near the carcass.......should have replaced it to prevent the blow-up indicated, mind you it was on the back and 40 profile so practcally touchin the road already..

Had a tyre failure on the M6 in an MR2 Roadster, rear end started to snake, car slewed left, hit the bank and flipped it end over end and did several barrel rolls back down it to end on my side on the hard shoulder.

Was a passenger in an old Citroen, the big one before the XM, that had left rear go at 140 ish on a German autobahn. We heard a bang, felt nothing and pulled over. The tyre was gone, and i mean gone. We changed it and continued on our merry way.

Thank God for air suspension!

Had a Michelin de-laminate at 70mph on the motorway, tyre didn't deflate but the tread flew everywhere. Sorry to the not so impressed MX5 owner who had his roof down and was pelted with hot rubber
