Default WRX 2002 'Bugeye' PPP

Hi I'm new on here.

I'm considering getting the upgrade done.

2 questions:

1. Is the PPP on my model the same as on the newer shape WRX i.e. the same performance enhancements.

2. How much difference is this likely to make to my insurance.

Thanks in advance.

About £80 if you use A-Plan, and about £400 if you go anywhere else....

1, no the 02 WRX does not recieve the same power incresase as the newer ones.

2, Not as much difference as getting it re-mapped by after market tuner and getting completly de-catted.

As your warrenty is nearly up i would not waste my money on PPP when you can get more elsewhere.

Is there much difference in performance between the 'Bugeye' and the later model once PPP'd?

Not sure on the exact figures, but there is quite a difference in "claimed" outputs, quick phone call to your local dealer will answer that one.

Is it worht ppp on a car thats nearly three years old???

Surely it's the same kit they use (sorry I'm no mechanic), the claimed unmodified difference in power is very small between the 2 models, so does it follow that the PPP difference in small?

Just going from what was said to me by Subaru dealer themselves, i own 02WRX and was going to get PPP fitted when i brought the car last November. Was told by dealer to wait till warrenty ended then get aftermarket tuners to do more for less.

I think there is about 10bhp difference in it, but dont quote me.

Good luck

Had my 02 WRX done just as they were changing the power from 245 bhp to 265 bhp and got the latter. As far I'm aware the bhp is the same, power delivery is slightly different though.

Martin, I'm in similar situation as you, own a 02 WRX and after some consideration I ordered the PPP. After it is fitted I'll post about my experience.
About the power, I contacted prodrive and was told that it is not the same package as for the new WRX, but the output is close to that, so it will give approx 40 bhp, making the car around 255 bhp as opposed to the original PPP which made it 245 bhp.

The '02 and '03 cars really aren't that different. Aftermarket exhaust and remap should easily be good for 280+ bhp on '02 wrx
