Unhappy Be gentle with her she's Fooked!

Bit sad today. had to drop the car off at the clinic for full engine rebuild!
The noises from under the bonnet where enough even to make Adam squint.
Going to be without her for about a month due to 2 things...
First and formost the demand for the services of Kev and crew at Scoobyclinic, their snowed under! (Popular as ever!!) and secondly it gives me a few weeks to find rather a large some of money!
Slightly different trip to work on Monday in the old 205 gti.
By the way I will be more careful which fuel goes in from now on... beleive me I now know it does make a difference! Cheers to Adam for delivering the bad news!

Another Import bites the dust then??

Makes you realise that a UK car is probably the best choice.

Hope it goes well!!

First impressions are the crank was just waiting to snap a very nasty knocking noise between 2 and 3.5 thousand revs. I have drove it hard at times but keep it in top condition or should I say thought I did!

The fuel I have used is BP Ultimate just for the fact its widely available but maybe wrong for my car, which is a version 2 sti 555.
We'll have to see what the clinic say when she's in bits.

Just been to see a mate who's thinking of a jap import sti, and told him to think carefully, because maybe the uk is a better choice.
Never the less I love my scoob and can't wait to get her back!!

Seems crazy not to get a re-map for uk fuel, got to be better than a rebuild

Excuse my ignorance but whats the difference? Why would you attribute this to the scoob being an import? I thought bp ultimate was a good fuel...its better than the crappy unleaded I use! (although my scoobs is uk spec)

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Hope it doesn't cost too much and that it's back with ya soon. Get the car remapped for UK fuel to stop future failures; saves messing around with OB too!

All the best,

Jap imports are designed to run on 100RON fuel. Standard UK cars only need 95RON fuel.

BP ultimate is still not high enough octane (97RON) which even though 3 octane points may not look like much, in reality it is a fairly big difference. So an import ideally should use octane booster as well.

Pardon me asking, but what makes you think the fuel you use is crappy? I ask this because I have previously had a load of water in my optimax on an occasion - so much for quality fuels eh?

NUL = 95RON

SUL = 97RON and that 2RON makes a difference I think and I notice it

JAP = 100RON - thats another 3RON

Quite a big jump and quite a big reason for buying a UK car designed for the UK, add the higher Insurance and doubtful history, then the spares problems .... and theres no need to get second best! Not these days anyway! (there was a time when the limit on UK cars meant an Import was the only route, but now there are so many UK cars about for sale - simply no need to buy the imitation)

Simple trip to the mappers and get it mapped properly for UK fuel would easily sort that out

Best of both worlds then

2500 pound to start! but then took engine out and certain bits "just crumbled!"
add to that new clutch lighten the flywheel and a port and polish and should get it back very soon just enough time to remortgage!!!

thanks alot!!

For ***** sake pete, how can you spout this stuff and still go on about a '**** link'. A knocklink can help identify these problems with fuel that you are pointing out above.

You are one twisted ***** fuca

you can only remap the V5 99' onwards, earlier models need an aftermarket ecu.

buying british is only better if your planning on putting nul in it, although my old MY00 said sul only on the filler flap.

i've had both and both where run on optimax with a remap on the import. i would not run any turbo'd car on nul.

the problem is the people who sell the cars they are not informed or are not informing the buyers of the correct fuel to use, its only when people come on places like here that they realise the importance fuel and sadly its sometimes too late. this does not make imports sh!te, it was designed to run on 100 ron, so put 100 ron in it or get it remapped.

I like the fact he calls JDM Imprezas an 'Imitation' and '2nd Best'

Indeed, of course he knows the opposite is actually the truth. Take the 05 UK STI, (v nice car btw) for example, it still doesnt have the twin scroll which has been fitted to the JDM for over 2 years. Guess they are holding that improvement back to tempt buyers into swopping their 05's for the 06 Subaromeo model.

MY00 P1, is just having its second rebuild in less than 3000 miles so for me perhaps not the best choice

Kieran.

Think that they used the JDM STi Ver V engine as a starting point for the P1 ...

Right, one of 2 things happened here:-

1. The Engine rebuild was crap

or

2. You didn't run it in properly

No other explaination is there??

Hardly means that the UK cars are bad??

Excellent .......... now my Technical Knowledge is being called into question! If that wasn't so ridiculous it would be really funny!

What I DO know is that a Cocklink will NOT save your engine ..... if the pretty lights make you slow down and drive properly then fair enough. But, come on, there are plenty of knocks in an engine bay!!

Pete
