Question URGENT!! HELP!!

My gearbox oil was low (just on the dipstick)

So I thought lets top her up - bought the gear oil and a hose and fed about 1/4 litre in ...... let settle and worked the gear lever a few times.

Looked at it again once it settled, just about on the 'E' ............ squirted some more in and the bloody thing is now reading well over the 'F' mark

What will happen if I drive it?????????

Pretty level drive ... wouldn't worry if it was 5mm above

And I was getting up at 5am to go to Goodwood!! Looks like thunder here, but dry there!

I'm going to have to drain some, is it easy, is there a cover to remove??

Take it straight to your Subaru main dealer. Better still, get them to come to you, better safe than sorry.........

What does the 'cocklink' suggest

A syringe and the same bit of tube to suck some back out if you're that worried.... easier than messing about and making a mess trying to drain just a bit out of the plug IMO

Yes, Scratch, thought about that .... no syringe here (remember I want to leave home at 5am tomorrow!)

I pushed the tube down into the oil and sucked, couldn't get anything up - other than a dribble of the oil in the tube straight into my mouth

Anyone know if there is a cover I need to remove or is it a simple under car/unscrew drain plug job??

Taken it for a run, seems ok (actually it seems slicker?) but I'm not happy with it that much over

It's undertray off.
Yes drainplug. you could just crack it and let oil dribble out and keep checking dipstick.
Plug washer (last one I got) was softish ali so will probably reseat.
Get yourself a bulb syphon with long tubes. Then bits of tubing to extend tubes.
About £2 in motor shops.
I've got 2, 1 for cars, 1 for plumbing stuff.

Yup, only the 1 drain plug on the transmission. Don't drain the engine!
Big plug, forgotten size. Just crack enough to let oil dribble out.
Gearbox oil looks and smells different to engine oil. It should look quite clean compared to used engine oil.
Transmission is that huge, quite long casing bolted to bellhousing.

I know which is the engine oil ... I can see that plug ... the one along from there then (looks about 22mm??)

Here goes!!

Pray for me ... its bloody hard on the drive - I've got a 1930s trolley jack holding it up and can't find my axle stands, anyway, lets have a pop at it ....

Oh God Pete! Your gearbox is going to destroy itself.

Remember the Subaru designers put those marks on the dipstick as absolute lower and upper extremes. They know best. Don't take any advice of 'well meaning but misguided hobbyists' on here. I know for a fact that they know FA, 'cause I read it somewhere'.

Check your hand book, check your MAF, check your fly. Run around your car with your trouser leg rolled up and left breast exposed, give the door handle a funny handshake and you'll be OK

Hmm. I'm never too sure if these threads are genuine but hey, I'm kind and always ready to help a fellow Scoob owner (?).
One day I just know he's gonna ask "how do I change my MAF".

Just drained 1/2 litre out the drain plug ...... middle of the dipstick now!!

Thank god for that!

The bloody old washing up bowl had a hole in the bottom, couldn't see in the dark, now I've got tranny oil all over my drive!

All go for Goodwood tomorrow then!

I thought you had said that you, as an engineer, had all the right gear.
Old washing up bowl!
Sleep tight, have fun at Goodwood.
