Should i swap my vx220 for a scoob?
I currently own a 02-plate yellow vauxhall vx220. A guy on the vx owners site has recently swapped the other way, from a wrx 52-plate to a 2.2 vx220.
I have always wanted a scooby for about 10 years but its just not possible to insure it. Ive insured a civic typeR and the vx but everywhere i ring on the scooby is 25+ and thats that. I am 22 with 4 years no cliams and 3 pionts, the vx insurance is 1k.
I no little about the maintanance of an impreza and always **** my self when i here they always break (engine meltdown). I would be looking for at the oldest a 52-plate preferably 03 with no more than 25k on the clock with full dealer history. Any info regarding getting insurance/maintanance costs or people interested in a swap would be helpful.
p.s. If you think a scooby can go round corners you havent seen nothing till you get one of these.

I drove a vx220 2.0 turbo recently, wow what a truely awesom car, so very very nearly brought it. It was a test drive but the salesman was keen for me to push it very hard indeed.
The answer you seek can only come for you, if i was 3 or 4 stone lighter, didnt have kids, then the vaux may have won for me. But got the scoob an d have never looked back.
Just depends on your needs really, but there is a great following with the scooby scene, with some really cool people.
Good luck

Oh and insurance try the above mentioned, then get a decent quote off tesco/virgin. (elephant excluded)

vx/scoob chat
Thought you guys would be all loved up with your scoobeis. The vx is ace but i do a 150 mile trip twice a month and that can be noisy/uncomfortable.I also think the sound the impreza makes is breath taking and the silver ones about 03-plats look fantastic. So there might be a few guys after a swap then?

I have made the jump.
Well Vauxhall gave me my money back after I started legal proceedings, but that is a different story.
The Scooby feels a little cumbersome in comparison to the VX, but you can scare 4 passengers at a time, oh yeah and a baby seat fits.
I have to say though I've been scouting thought the for sale section of vx220.org for the last few weeks, despite my problems with the VX I still want one, more than I want an STI.
Oh well 17th June is the deadline for a new one and I don't think I can make it.

Even if you dont want a vx220 you have gotta have a go in one. It does feel slower than the civic in a straight line because its smoother, where the civic picks up at 6,500rpm like turbo lag but it obviosly isnt. On corners its unbeatable, you feel like you take on jenson button in his F1 car its that good.

My scoob met an unfortunate end though and I subsequently bought an 02 VX220. To my mind there is no comparison. I'll admit that it's no-where near as quick as my old scoob but it's so much more fun and involving to drive, and you don't have to be doing silly speeds to enjoy it! I do miss the scoob from time to time though, the acceleration was something else. I'd suggest only swapping if you need the extra practicality or you just _need_ to own one. A 150 mile drive shouldn't be too bad in a VX though, have you got a VSE or similar?
Anyway, throw this on the VX board and we'll see if we can talk you out of swapping!

The VX220 IMHO has got to be seen as one of Vauxhalls better cars, but it's really only a fun car. If I had the cash, no kid and a wife who loves fast cars.... I'd have an Evo MR FQ330 of course and a VX220 for the weekend.
I drive a round trip of 500 miles every other week from Sussex to London, which is a mixture of dual carriage way, country lanes and queuing in traffic. My 04 WRX Wagon just eats these miles up and gets me from A to B in relative comfort and speed.
Base insurance for me (34 years old) is about £600 FC, but after adding a BB, splitter and lowering springs, it's now at £670. That's the problem... almost everyone who owns a Scoob will want to mod it at some point!
As for engines blowing up, don't believe all the hype. Yes there's a few on this BBS that have reported engine failures, and some of these might not be down to the driver, but to the garage not doing it's job correctly when servicing. IMHO (again) service the car regularly, drive it how it should be driven and just generally look after it... and it should be fine. (Servicing can be a bit steep at the main dealers)
Get one. At least you can say owned a Scoob
J.
PS. If you think a VX220 can go round corners, you've seen nothing till you get a.... Lowered classic with Whiteline rear ARB/drop links, Whiteline front ALK, strut brace, 17" wheels and Toyo tyres. Sh*te to a blanket comes to mind

Going on hols on sat but as soon as i come back a piper is on order. Bloody dera tho, best part of £400 for the back box+ fitting.
The p1's are stunning, would swap for that in a heart beat. I dont think i could afford to run it though. Seen 6 p1's now on e-bay with new engines. One of them only had 40k on the clock.
