Default Smoking Exhaust on Tickover.

My Exhaust has begun smoking occasionally on tickover...nothing particularly heavy...but wondered what might be causing it as its never happened before.

Turbo about to go bang?

Colour of the smoke would help and is it from cold or warmed up?

The oil level is at its max level...so could it just be burning off any excess?
Car has done 52K and sounds fine.

what you want to do is get someone to follow you and drive it see what happens on boost and off boost could as you say be burning off the excess but would have to be high pressure to do so may damage something if overfilled that much

Are all the air in take pipes before the turbo fitted correctly, as after i refited turbo ect, i forgot to properly refit the pipes between the air filter and the pipe under the intake manifold<please pardon my technical explination> and this gave lots of steam like smoke, also loads of inconsistant boost!

Is this another PS Lewis? Or has 'pslewis' re-branded himself?

...another ps Lewis i think.

Boost is fine...everything is smooth.....just smoke from the tail pipe.
Exhaust will smoke a bit then stop...then start again.

Definetely smoke not steam.

Ok then you **** thread sucker.

Look on it as a tip for when you do leave air intake pipes loose, and get smoke/steam from rear end.
Maybe you will remember this post,

When an engine is idling there is a greater vacuum on the intake side which is not there when running on boost. Those with a boost gauge fitted will see this as a negative reading.
Bluey grey smoke from the exhaust when idling or when first revving after a period of idling is commonly caused by oil being drawn into the inlet tract from valve seals / turbo oil seals / breather pipes etc by the high vacuum.

It does not necassarily mean that your engine is FUBAR

If your oil consumption is still reasonably low then I wouldn't worry too much about it at this time.

This is a general answer and is not confined to a scooby as it applies to all engines.

Could be the start of a head gasket beginning. Reently bought a second scoob for retail, '95 wrx import, head gasket was out etc.... smoke from exhaust. Oil level filled really high....
