Default UK300 in disguise

Being a owner of the original WRX UK300, I was interested to find out that there is now a blobeye WRX 300. Thoght I would check it to to see what additional extras were over a base WRX, as the original had 18" Gold Alloys, headlight conversion, different spoiler to name a few. Anyway, after finding a pic on the Subaru website it looks like a...........................WRX
What was the point of this????

Just read the spec in JP mag, PPP'd, gold alloys (WRX ones painted), alloy gear ****, branded mats, logo's seats (with blue inserts), fog lamp covers..

Don't think thats any more or less (all be it different changes) than the bug UK300 had is it?

Not too far off. The original UK300 was very expensive for what it was. No PPP as standard but had prodrive headlamps, 18" alloys and a love it or hate it rear spoiler.

The original UK300 could have been PPP'd, and I think you have the same choice with the latest WRX300. It's just at this point in time, PPP is free

If anyone can post pics of the 2 side by side, you will see there is quite a bit different between a standard 01 WRX and the UK300, against a standard 05 wrx and WRX300

£25k was quite expensive, but I think you pay for the rareity with only 300 being produced, which makes it one of the reareset Impreza's.

Thumbs up

I've got a WRX300 brochure here and it says

Limited edition of 300.
PPP upgrade package (fitted as standard same as with WR1 i.e not an option)
RAC Trackstar + 12months subs.
WRX300 badging.
17" Gold Alloy wheels.
Bespoke Aluminium Gear ****.
WRX300 Branded Carpet Mats.
Blue alcantara seats with SWRT logo.
Fog lamp covers with SWRT logo.

Hope this helps.

DJ.

This was my point in my thread below. What is the point in it?? The wheels are the same as normal but painted gold not gunmetal, the spoiler is the same, the power is the same, the suspension is the same. Its just tarted up with some stickers, cloth trim, gear **** and fog covers. Branded carpet mats? Woohoo I've just wet myself with excitement!

have to agree, as someone who owned an original UK300 from new, and then saw the bottom fall out of them price wise (11k for a 26.5K car, 3 years old with only 26K on the clock when it was sold 12 months ago), i would be very wary of buying any special edition, unless it was truely at the top end of the STI chain (i.e WR1), rather than something based upon a WRX.

Am i bitter about the STI coming our after the original bugey 300, dam right, should have waited 6 months and then got something alot quicker and not much difference in price , subaru certainly saw us mugs coming along with the 300 in 2001

What is the point of your comment? I think the clue is in the WRX part of the car's name, it is a WRX and nobody is trying to disguise that fact.

It seems to me a way to get a PPPd wrx insured as a standard car as it is officially registered as such with the ABI and DVLA (It is still dealer fitted but the model is recognised as having PPP as standard just as the WR1 is).

That alone should be an large factor when deciding whether to buy a PPPd wrx and therefore whatever your opinion on the small styling touches (and by the way there are no stickers) they are simply small adjustments to distinguish itself apart from a standard WRX.

As you can buy it for pretty much the same if not less than a WRX then it seems like common sense to me.

Fair enuffsky. My point is that a special edition should be giving you something extra for a good price, particularly as there are so many good deals around on parallel imports (with warranty) and nearly new cars. The '01 cars gave you a different look with different spoiler and 18" wheels.

However, looking at the other thread on this topic it would appear that the 300 is pre registered with ppp. If thats true it would make insurance much cheaper as a standard 260bhp car. An incentive of sorts. But then why can't Subaru do this with all free ppp cars? It sems odd that a more powerful but standard WR1 is cheaper to insure than an sti ppp.

Yea i saw this add the other day and thought it looked a little odd. I own no.264 of the UK300's produced and have to say i prefer my UK to the new WRX model. Not to say i don't like the new 04/05 models as id love to upgrade to a WR1 at some point.

Seems like a marketing thing and i have to say ive had countless people ask me if the car is 300bhp as i guess its compared against the FQ300 evo's.

Mine has the PPP and ive added a HKS Hyper and decat so its around the 260bhp mark i guess, need to get to 300 though hehe

I originally wanted a classic before finally agreeing on the 01 UK300. I have to say it's a real head turner. Not one day has gone by in the 3 1/2 years I've owned it, that someone hasn't blatenately turned round to look at it. I've had people stop at green lights to look, and people knock on my house door to chat about it.
£25K was alot, but at the time I was under 25 yrs old and couldn't afford the insurance on an STI. The mods I have now done have taken it to 255bhp, and I'm looking to get it TEK3'd towards the end of the year.
No complaints from my end about the original UK300

Same hear had my 01 UK300 for almost 4 years and I know what you mean about turning heads, must be the look with the Prodrive lamps and lip spolier. Had a look at the new WRX300 at the weekend but think i will stay with the 01 car. Out of interst does any one else think the new seats dont wrap around as much?

I'm sorry, but a Scoob just isn't the same without the turbo propelling it to 60 in under 5.5 secs
