Question Newbie needing help

Hello all

I'm a new member over from Passionford as i'm selling my Escort RS to get a Subaru.
I'm going to look at one tomz its a L reg WRX, so i need to know what to look for as this will be my first time owning a jap car.

I know the basics like look for smoke smoke on start up, but is there any common bits to look out for? and where do i find the inportant bits like Vin plate etc

Thanks
Paul

Paul.

Welcome.

www.sidc.co.uk for a good source of info.

The most imp thing for you to establish is that it has been run on SUL and octane booster to bring the fuel up to 100ron as this was what the car was designed to run on (unless its been remapped for UK fuel). Otherwise the engine will most likely have been detting and its only a matter of time before it lets go.

Do not take a tyre kicker approach to this kind of car. Get it wrong and it will cost you dearly. Independent specialist advice is a MUST! If you get an abused one and its engine lets go, it will probably cost you what you paid for the car to get it rebuilt!

Got my Knocklink from here, defently a must have if you intend to modify or if you have a jap import.

Basically it's a device that detects detonation and translates input from the sensor into a l.e.d display which warns you when all is not well. Pretyy much essential for an import.

If the owner doesn't know about this....walk, no run, away!

You have done your homework on insurance, running and servicing costs haven't you? These are expensive cars to run!!
