Default P1 Questions for a Newbie

Hey, picking up a P1 at the end of the week, cant wait! Just got a few questions about general stuff. Its my first scoob so i got a lot to learn

1) Where will i get an oil filter? Is it likely my local subaru dealer will have these in stock?

2) Mobil one has always been my preffered oil in previous car, still ok in the scoob?

3) Is it always better to run a P1 on optimax/ultimate + an octane booster?

Ta much guys

YOU WILL GET A OIL FILTER FROM HALFORDS,SUBARU DEALER(VERY EXSPENSIVE) SCOOBYWORLD(NOTTTS)

NOT SURE ABOUT THE MOBIL ONE OIL AS I DONT USE THAT PARTICULAR ONE,

IF THE CAR HAS BEEN RE-MAPPED YOU SHOULD BE OK WITH OPTIMAX.

JUST OUT OF CURISOSITY YOU DIDNT GET THE CAR FROM EBAY DID U ? I WAS LOOKING AT TWO ON EBAY OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS.

The P1 is a UK car so there is no need for octane booster. Just optimax will be fine

Oil Filters are about £7 from Subaru

Mobil 1 - NOT the 0W variety!! Stick with the thicker 10W

P1 will run on any Super Unleaded - no need for OB

1) See a specialist, they're only a few quid!

2) Do a search on this topic, lots of opinions, but you'll find that concensus is that it is CRITICIAL that you use the right grade. Ask a sepcialist if unsure. Fully Synth oil is the best bet IMHO. The most popular brands on here are Silkolene Pro S and Motul.

3) Right, it's a bit more complicated than others have made out. The p1 is indeed a UK car, so you shouldn't need OB. HOWEVER. The p1 basically has a Sti 5 engine (JDM), Subaru made a rather half baked job of converting this to run on UK fuel, basically they put stuff in the fuel tank! They should have remapped the car for the lower quality UK fuel. As a result of this, there have been a number of P1s with engines that seem to let go around the 60k mark through det caused by inadequate grade fuel. The solution to this is to get the car properly remapped for UK fuel. Untill such time, it may also be an idea to get a Knocklink for the car to monitor for any Det, better safe than sorry.

All the best.

I'd recommend that you go and register over at the P1 Web Owners Club at http://www.p1woc.co.uk and ask the same questions.

Everyone's really friendly there and are mostly all P1 owners or ex-P1 owners.

1) Any subaru dealer will stock these, as well as the big indepandant specialists. They only cost a few quid, but best to use OE subaru parts if you still have warranty.

2) P1's basically have a standard STI5 (jap) ECU with a bit of extra knock correction. Most owners run them with NF/Millers octane booster or (ideally) get them remapped properly. They run WAY smoother and have more power (with less detonation) with a Tek3 remap by someone who knows what they're doing.

3) The general concensus among P1 owners is to use Motul 300v Competition 15/50, or Silkolene Pro S. Both are good quality fully synthetic oils.

Sign up over there asap and let us know which number you're getting.
