I've Just Been Into a Subaru Dealership and
..... I was very impressed with the cars!!
I lost all interest in a new Impreza when the Pig-Ugly one came out ..... I wasn't even too interested in the newer one, but ...
I have just taken out a WRX Wagon with 13miles on it, comfortable, quiet, doors shut with a great clunk, side skirts colour coded, in all a nice place to be .................... however, it was completely gutless I know it only had 13 miles on it - but, dear me, no press in the stomach - no neck snap at 3000RPM (in all, much, much, much slower than my Classic Wagon!) Oh, dear!
Never mind, the dealer said, I can have free PPP which would help lift it to what power I am used to. Would I like to take one out with PPP? Yes I said, as a Black WRX Prodrive rumbled onto the forecourt ... this had 30,000miles on it and was originally supplied by Spar****s of Botley - traded in for a Forester XT (anyone on here??)
So, off I went ............ BLOODY HELL!!!! The Sound, The Power, The Feeling of being pressed back in your seat .. I didn't want to take it back!! The burble turned into thunder as she hit 3000RPM and took off!!
Impressed?? You are DAMNED right I'm IMPREZED!! FANTASTIC!
Anyway, I can have the WRX Wagon with PPP and mats and this and that and the other, next week, in exchange my Impreza Wagon MY00 and £12k ..... my car wasn't even in sight So, I could probably get a bigger allowance, maybe?
I suppose he can sell 1 owner Classic Impreza Turbos, from the year 2000, all day long?
Is the PRODRIVE backbox available without the ECU? Is there another backbox that has that balance of noise? It was not noisy like a Nova boy - it was absolutely spot-on!
I am a happy man ... I didn't want to take the Impreza with PPP back - however, the standard WRX Wagon REALLY disappointed me .... I'm sure I saw the Unigate Milkman Whizzed Past at one point!
Just taken my old Classic girl out ... and she's still fast, still solid, still impressive .....
Pete

M3?? Would it?? In the Impreza we are talking 0-62 in 4.6 seconds for £21k!!
Can any BMW even hope to match that?? Doubt it ... and German cars are not built properly these days, they are falling to bits!
Pete
Just found out - M3 = £42,000!! FOR TWO DOORS!!! AND a pathetic 0-62 in 5.2seconds!! get real

I am willing to be proved wrong ... I am nothing if not straight and honest with my opinions!!
The new WRX as standard is much slower than the classic .....
Add PPP and it brings it back up to where it should be in the performance stakes (thats why Subaru have done the offer of FREE PPP)
The Bug-Eye was, without question, the worst thing Subaru did in the Impreza history - the new one is very appealing indeed (but ONLY with free PPP!)
I like the small side light in the front headlamp unit

Your standard wagon wont do 0 - 62 in 5.2 seconds. But a PPP Classic will

Well done for being flexible and honest.
1 things though
"The new WRX as standard is much slower than the classic ....."
That is statistically, in every sense, an over exaggeration. A 1.0 Corsa is much slower than a classic.

Well, I have just been out in a standard WRX Wagon with 13miles on it, and it ain't nowhere near as fast as my 56kmile Classic Wagon ................... thats all I know.
AND with PPP on a NEW car its worth doing .... the results are superb!! If FREE!!!
I certainly still cannot see the value of £1600 for the PPP ..... its too much, and NOT a wise investment on an old Classic Impreza!

These cars with FREE PPP still have to be insured!
No, the reason is simple, the standard WRX Impreza can be blown away by pretty much anything
PPP just brings it up to Classic Performance Levels

Pete,
When i picked my first impreza up (MY00 turbo, 7 miles on the clock) for the first 2-3k miles it was a total gutless wonder, even being outpaced by honda civic VTi's (1.8 standard!) so i can believe that the MY05 felt gutless, and will do for about 2-3k miles, though the ppp will help you still wont feel all that power till later on in the cars life (10k+) where it really will start to come to life

Tony, when I picked my Impreza Turbo up brand new with 12 miles on it I still felt the power .... and keeping it below 4000RPM was difficult!!
This 13mile 05 WRX just didn't have any grunt, sorry!!

Oh, yes, another thing ............ they will only fit the PPP on the first service at 1,000mile.
Not sure why, but, they will give me the PPP when I buy the car - I bring it in at the 1,000mile service and they fit it.
Why is that then??
Pete
The dealer said that some buyers were not declaring the PPP to their Insurance Company!!

Just remembered something .... and it could be important!?
The CEL was flashing like an indicator ... the salesman said that it was just because they hadn't reset it yet .. ????
While driving it and being very disappointed with the power, I wondered if it was flashing as they had maybe limited the boost or something?? To stop boy racers??
Just a thought?

If your original question hasnt been answered Pete; the Prodrive box is manufactured by Hayward & Scott I believe, so Im sure that if not identical, then something very similar is available.

The think the dealer is correct, they reset the CEL at the PDI, IIRC mine did the same when I went to take a sneak preview at the dealer. I have no idea if this affects performance though.

Sold my classic last September so I've been Scoobless for 6 months or so , but I've just picked up a MY03 standard WRX wagon with 13,500 on the clock and I don't think it's slower than my classic was , sure it doesn't give you the wallop in the back that the classic does but it pushes just as well and is a lot smother and quieter so it's quite a surprise when you look at the speedo and see just how fast your going

Pete,
I did the exact same exercise a few months back, and found the exact same. My MY99 was MUCH more punchy, than the WRX.
In fact, what really suprised me was the fact that the PPP didn't make that much difference Granted my MY99 is modded (yes, I'm aware that you frown on modded motors, not that I really care ), but in fact I did recall a comment made to me "what do you think PPP is? - an authorised mod-kit to make the car better than standard"
The only new Subaru that made me think "hmm, where's the credit card", was the STI (with PPP) - but I just couldn't justify the extra expense for such little gains (in my personal experience)
The big difference I think you probably noticed was the sheer vast improvement in torque over the classic (and WRX for that matter).
I hope you end up sorting a new model out - they are good.
Dan

PPP is free because Subaru want to shift the remaining 04/05 cars ready for that new incredibly ugly thing that's due late summer?
