Angry 22b saga with dealer continues

Just looked out of curiosity if Graham Walkers had sold the 22b I had previously had a report done on. The car is still for sale unsurprisingly. However, still advertised as in "amazing car" they have now added "AMAZING CAR !!! RE-ADVERTISED DUE TO TIMEWASTER'S !!!, Reduced Price £21,995"

I sincerely hope that I am not being branded a timewaster after only winning back half of my £500 deposit and going to the expense of having an inspection done on the car by highly qualified subaru specialists.

As a reminder that its an "amazing car" here is a copy of the report on the car for any potential purchasers of this car. Hope it isn't a reflection on the stock that Walkers hold

For what its worth, if I am a timewaster, it's quite strange that I now have a mint 22buk spec on my drive right now. Just wondering if other timewasters such as myself had left a deposit down and then had trouble getting it back.

Thank heavens for the report, looks like that one has had a hard life!

No way are you a timewaster, but they can't say, "readvertised due to the car's condition falling significantly below the advertised standard!"

Glad you got a good un.

Just curious...but how the "inspector" know that the wrong sealent was used on the engine and gearbox....was it leaking or something?

Cars has had a hard life by the looks of it anyway. Still, dealers can be a right PITA when it comes to honesty

Never thought much of engineers reports but christ this one has saved you a mint. Dont think I will ever buy a used performance car again without this.

It is too easy to think that a couple of hundred quid is an unnecessary expense.

Glad the dealer is exposed and dont expect he will sell any more scoobies from now on.

Good work

I won't go into details but I'd have saved myself £4k if I'd only had a report done on my P1 when I bought it. Sadly I didn't as I thought I'd be able to trust a Subaru main dealer, and had faith in the proven used cars scheme.

Just shows how wrong you can be.

Glad yours worked out for you though matey.

Shockin'!!!!!

You would think when you spend money like that from a Subaru specialised you would be buying a decent car. How wrong can you be.
If I ever buy another car I will be paying for an inspection for sure.

Cheers,

Rich

It says it has had a £4.5k rebuild for engine and turbo 750 miles ago. Is this after your report or before?

The report was done after the rebuild. The rebuild was done some time in the past several months as the tax ran out in dec 2005 last time I was there.

Apparently as I have not got in writing that the purchase of the car is subject to inspection then Im not entitled to a deposit back. The dealer offered to rectify any problems that were highlighted, but I cannot see that happening! "I should expect wear and tear on a car this age". The car has apparently only done less than 40k, yet my workhorse golf diesel outside has just clicked over 90k yet the bodywork has no accident damage or paintwork and thats just a bog standard car, nothing special about it!

Pete did the inspection yes and a very thorough job he done too. Would certainly recommend him to anybody purchasing a subaru.

Also on the timewaster point. I am truely fecked off if Im being labeled a timewaster. I found the gearbox leak myself when i went to see the car along with some other faults. These were to be rectified by the dealer upon inspection. The car was gone for 11 days yet it came back in the state above. What hope would I have on a warranty claim with the same dealer (standard 3 month warranty)

when you asked about how long the warranty was, didn't you think it odd when he replied,
"See the end of the Forecourt..........."

I have heard these guys have (reads as had) a good reputation. If im honest I have looked at this scoob on autotrader, and it "looks" very nice for the money. obviously I wont be going any further than looking at it now.

has anyone else had problems with them? are all their cars as this 22b is? as they have lots of subaru on site.

my 22B has had a full respray as there were enough stone chips in each panel to warrant it.

chipped ecu? well I have a £3000 pectel ecu which wouldn't communicate with their select monitor.

there is no heat shield on my turbo

there are probably bent fins on my intercooler.

am sure several trim clips are missing, they can break when running new wires. I replace mine and hold stock of them and they are about £0.10 each.

am sorry but you could spend probably £50 sorting out that car and for its age it could be in stunning condition based on that report alone.

The only concern for me would be the ecu, but the standard ecus cause them to det their **** off.

Admittedly the dealer should have done this work, but it doesn't sound as bad as you are making out.

Adam, have you seen the car? I must say that I can spot a respray at ten paces so this car would have stood out like a sore thumb to me. If it was a cosmetic repsray then the car should be OK body wise, but I suspect not. If it was due to panel damage then the price should reflect the cars history IMO. The engine leaks do suggest some work here and this would make me a nervous buyer as the builder couldn't rebuild it without it leaking, which leads onto future risk. There seems to be too much work on this car for my liking and the price would be too high in consideration of this fact. If I wanted a 22B then unless it was going to be a track car then I'd want a 'minter'.

Not sure if the 22B has intercooler fans

Oil leaks only afer 1000 miles on a rebuild and wrong sealer used? Sounds like more than £50 repair

depends on the source of the oil leaks.

I would be interested to know the diagnosis of the wrong sealer being used.

I also would rather have a subaru specialist check it out than the AA, but I guess they don't offer the come back if they get it wrong.

I wasnt suprised when you named the dealer I went looking at Scoobies there for a mate around 8 months ago lets just say I wouldnt waste my time going again. If Pete said it was a bad buy I would be happy with that, he knows his stuff (he must do he tells me my car is mint)
Out of interest will Pete do an inspection for anyone and does he go to the car or do you have to take the car to him?

Thanks scoobynutta555,

You have saved me a 500 mile round trip from Scotland to see this car.

It certainly looks good in the photo but I was suspicious of a car that needs an engine and gearbox rebuild at 40k miles. It was going to be my first question on phoning them to see if I trusted what they said.

There's another 22b for sale at Fife Mitsubishi in Scotland. Its been up for sale for around 4-5 months which makes me suspicious of it too. Anyone heard anything about that one?
