Talking WR1 OR SPEC C

I hav currently got a P1, and fancy a change for either the WR1 or a spec c,

Could u guys point me in the right direction please.

Is the spec c really basic, ie no a/c or electric windows?
just roar power and go like stink?

Wr1 to heavy and would be a let down compared too the good old P1?

Any one know where there is specs for the spec c, equipment levels like interior spec etc?

Thanks in advance Phily B

Spec C comes in 2 forms:

Spec C
No electric windows
No electric door mirrors
No HID headlamps
No Air-Con

Spec C Limited
Comes will all the above (i think, but I know for certain it comes with the electric windws and Air-con).

The Spec C is *probably* THE Subaru to have at present (bar any special editions based on the Spec C).

Never driven a WR1 so cannot comment, but people that have have said the Spec C is the better car for a ***** out car.

The Spec C is the closest your gonna get to a modern day Type R performance wise, bar the weight differences between the classic shape Type R and the modern Spec C the performance is on par between the 2 (with the Spec C expected to be much better as an outright track monster).

Others may have other views though.

Regards,
Shaun.

Limited doesn't have HID but does have leccy windows and mirrors, and aircon.

Major difference is handling. WR1 is based on 2004 STi chassis - lots of understeer unless you mod the suspension. Spec C handling is spot on and weighs less (the limited is about 20-30kgs heavier than the totally stripped Spec C ... mine weighs 1390kg). 2005 STi shares the Spec C chassis but has softer suspension.

Some people have said they find the Spec C hard to live with as a day-to-day car but I've not had this problem myself - it is my only (family) car and I drive it at least 3 times a week and have done a couple of 500 mile+ journeys in it.

Definitely.

Mind you, you won't have any problem finding a WR1 - not many want them.

Default Spec C

Philyb - I changed my P1 for a Spec C Ltd (Air con & electric windows) and at first I hated it, now I love it. I've covered 19,000 miles in it this year it's my every day car. There are upsides and down sides with owning a spec C against a P1 but if you are serious PM me and I'll give you an insight. PS you will need to get it remapped (ECU Tek) for best results.

You can't bring the type25 into this - its not a subaru production car.
OK yeah it starts life off as a standard production car, but then Litchfield's butcher it with different engine, suspension etc.

The 'SOLD' 2005 Chrystal Grey JDM Impreza is mine ... all mine .... well in a couple of weeks when I get the money together.

Have chosen to convert it to be a Type 20 - ie the same upgrades as the Type 25 but retaining the original 2ltr JDM engine - so I get all the benefits (well OK, it's fractions of a second off the pace of a T25 .... but more than enough for me) and with a lower price tag.

Can't wait ....

Who said you can't bring the Type 25 into this? No-one limited the discussion to production cars only .

And if what Litchfields do to the car is "butchery" then I'll order a few more chops, thank you

The type25 can't even be classed as a special edition based on the spec c as it is a million miles away from being so.

The Type 25 in my mind is a special edition because they are quite rare.

Well thats the way i see it anyway.

i would love a type 25 but am probably going the spec C route as they are slightly cheaper myself

I think you'll find that the T25 was dreamt up with the intension of competing with the spec c, so while the T25 was not designed to be a package exclusively for spec c’s (although a few T25 spec c variations do exist) the T25 can most certainly be included in this thread and classed comfortably in the leagues of the spec c.

Clearly the T25 is a special edition (only around 30 at the moment) and as said by UFO some are based on Spec Cs, so you're wrong again.

Possibly the cost might rule it out here, but as potentially the best usable Impreza there is you have to consider it.

Regardless of whether you consider the T25 as a set of modifications or a limited edition, it's worth considering if you're in the market for a new Spec C or a WR1 ... although they are a lot more expensive.

The only thing I'd say is that a standard Spec C isn't that much slower than a 'standard' T25 (based on a base JDM STi) and a couple of not-too-expensive, not-very-drastic mods to a Spec C can bring it up to the same power-to-weight as a T25 ... for about £6k less. Personally I like the lighter weight rather than bigger engine route to big bhp/tonne and love the raw feel of the Spec C.

Of course you can also create a T25 from a Spec C if you have the money to spend ...

Fine then, but what about insurance on these.
Is there a Subaru Impreza Type 25 on the insurers database? or is it just a spec C with a load of aftermarket mods bolted onto it?

You may be surprised to hear that when I came to insure mine the insurers knew exactly what it was, and the additional premium over my old STi IV was £15 for nine months. That included the non-standard leather and the new airbox.

Plus I would expect your namesake the Webmaster to suggest that the Spec C is the best out there - he's only just bought one

Well there you go then.
So the insurance companies know of the Type 25 then - Absolutely amazing considering that the majority of them don't even know what a PPP is?

You've really got to drive them - they're quite different cars.

I've never driven a Spec C but done a lot of miles in a WR1 and some hot Evos. The WR1 is certainly the most rounded Scoob for the road. Fabulous car. If I wanted something with a bit more edge it would be one of the FQ Evos. Great for a thrash, but get on your nerves as a daily driver.

Just don't spend that kind of money without knowing exactly what you want and had a good test drive in all of them.

A standard Spec-C has the same power to weight ratio as the T25

Still havent test driven a T25 so can't comment on how they drive.

As an all rounder it has been stated (from what I have been told and understand) the T25 is the ultimate Impreza.

As an all out, ***** out Impreza (again from people that have driven all manner of Scoobs, so not from personnal experience) the Spec-C is the better.

As Big Brother says... "YOU decide"

All are awesome and all have there own strengths and weaknesses...... it's up to what you want at the end of the day.

XRS,
lol

Please note I was very careful how I worded that, by including *probably* and "but people that have have said the Spec C is the better car for a ***** out car" Since I guess the T25 is aimed at a different market, I figured my statement was ok.

Regards,
Shaun.
