Default Would you buy one???

Has anyone bought a P1? What would you expect to pay for a five year old with low mileage and fsh? Are they worth the extra cash?
All your help is appreciated!

Do you mind only 2 doors?

Do you now, or may you in future want to tow with it? Jetski, Garden Trailer or SpeedBoat?

Its not much faster in the real world than a normal UK Impreza, which comes with 4/5 Doors and can pull your JetSki to the coast ....... oh, and costs a lot less.

Some on here have them and love them ........

Up to you ....

Pete

Overpriced IMHO

Real world its a lot faster than a uk car, same skill level driver.

Sold mine last week for £15500. Make sure you get it properly inspected and the best ones still have subaru warranties.

Thanks guys. This one's pristine and only 2 owners. There's been no modifications whatsoever and is as is from the factory. Price I think is steep at £17, 995??

Mods can be removed prior to sale. Does seem pricey unless its a subaru dealer and they always like to add a bonus on for themselves.

IMHO if you have cash its better to go private as long as you get the car checked by a subaru specialist (some subaru garages will do an inspection).

Mine was owned from new by me and had uprated brakes exhaust and remaining 14month warranty. i sold to brother for quick sale but i dont imagine id have sold it for much more.

Cannot stress highly enough to get the car inspected by a specialist.

I've also found out that subaru warranties have rocketed at the mo bcoz people keep modifying them so this one's coming with a scotsure one for 12 months which is equivalent. Dealer is reluctant to move on price and will give me retail price for my Clio 172 sport.
Is it worth waiting for prices to drop?
By the way it's a subaru dealer.

£18k is A LOT!!!

But, as is said above ....... you MUST get it checked out properly!!

You do know that £18k is more than enough for a BRAND new Impreza with 0 owners!?

Pete

Its a SUBARU Dealer?? Make sure you get a SUBARU Warranty on it - not some Mickey Mouse Warranty!! You are paying £18k .... a SUBARU warranty should be included!!

Go VERY careful!

If it hasnt got the official IM warranty provided by subaru directly, then walk. That sort of money is a lot of cash for what they seem to be going for. Trade in price for a P1 (for cash not another one of their cars) is £13-14k max unless its got tiny miles or Pamela Andersons lingerie in the glove box. Gives a good idea of the mark up they are making.

There will be at least 45-50 for sale on the autotrader site at any one time, not to mention other subaru dealers. Go to www.subaru.co.uk and look through their proven cars. Also go to http://www.p1woc.co.uk/phpBB2/index.php
which is a dedicated site for owners of P1s. There are also a few of them for sale.

Also, Ive heard there is a meeting next week of official subaru dealers next week where they are going to confront subaru uk about their revised warranty prices. The current warranty scheme was introduced in January and literally trebled warranty renewal. Ive heard a rumour that there has been next to no take up at all from anyone extending their warranties now. Knock on effect will be nobody getting their car serviced at any dealer.

If low miles and price is your thing, a quick search on the subaru site has revealed http://www.subaru.r66internet.co.uk/...p?ID=500504566

£17k with 28k miles

Really .... at that price you should DEMAND a SUBARU warranty!! Don't care how much it costs the dealer .... you want one!

The P1's are a limited edition in a way - but remember there are 1,000 out there - and at any one time about 50 are up for sale in the trader ...... probably another 50 with Main Dealers? thats 10% of the UK Stock!

Hardly rare ..... thats just Dealer speak for 'bend over we are about to shaft you!'

The Warranty issue is interesting, I have been quoted £1233 for 12 months When I contacted Subaru warranty to have some fun by stating there was a typing error, the lad on the phone laughed and said they had sold very, very few ......

Of course, you don't pay Main Dealer prices when you have no warranty to look after - the dealers must be suffering a bad drop in servicing I guess?

Hi Pete,

The dealer's offering 9k for mine but initially said it would normally be £7250 so his exact words were there was no margin left to play with on the p1.
The one i'm looking at is on the subaru website at £17995.
By the way I would be settling the difference part cash, part finance.
The reason for the warranty thing is that subaru warranties have rocketed so he is supplying the scottish equivalent called Scotsure capped at 2k for 12 months.
He's insisted that if anything goes wrong it will be covered.
Does that sound right?

I've had my P1 for 18 months now and can offer the following advice: -

Firstly £18k is very overpriced - even for a car with 22k miles on the clock. There are certain things that are needed with a P1 and the most important is uprated brakes as the standard ones are crap. The Prodrive/ Alcon updgrade (£1600 when new) is what you should be looking for if not AP, etc.

The last cars to be registered in 2001 should have 12 to 18 months of extended warranty left (if it was extended at 3 yrs old) - search and you will find one with it.

Other niceties include 18" wheels, Prodrive backbox or other aftermarket exhaust, decat (essential for releasing more power), remap (Tek3 will make it safer, more economical and a lot faster), 3 guages - boost, oil press, oil temp.

For £18k I would expect ALL of the above - so search around and you will find such an example.

Alternatively, forget the warranty and but private at a good price (<£14k) and then start modifying it - if you don't when you but it then you surely will in the future

For more info look at www.p1woc.co.uk

Cheers

Terry

Never heard of a scottish version of an IM warranty, not to say their isnt one though. You mention a cap of 2k for the warranty. if an engine let go i can assure you, you will be paying considerably more than 2k for a new engine.

If I was you Id sell your car privately and get some quotes finance wise for a competitive loan. Then either go to private sellers, where you WILL pick up a bargain, or hammer out a deal with a sub dealer. The finance dept will try and push you into a comparitively high interest loan, but it would pay to find the cheapest quote and ask subaru finance to match it at least.

I can see you overspending by a MINIMUM of 5k if you pay their prices for the px and finance.

At the end of the day youll be left with a car which has no 'optional extras' from new (18 wheels, p1 exhaust, proper brakes etc), no uk wide claim/price unlimited warranty. The car will be worth around 13-14 k trade in as it is right now, thats a paper loss of 4k even before you drive off from the showroom.

Its the rarest car in the world to a dealer selling, but something they quote down very harshly if they take it in for cash (discounting p/x for another overpriced model)

See here for possibly the best value P1 available anywhere. And it has the big brake conversion and has just had timing belt service.

For less than £18k you can have all of what I suggested above with the exception of the brakes (but then there's a set on here for £1100) - click here

It's a much better deal than what the dealer is offering you.

If the dealer wants an answer by tomorrow then just walk away.

When I bought mine I looked around for quite a long time before buying. Dealer prices were then about £3k above private prices for similar spec P1s.

If you rush into buying this one then you will see another one in the future and may wish you had waited. I would definately suggest trying to sell your Clio privately for a couple of weeks prior to part-exchanging it - as you will always be ripped off by a dealer going down that route.

Like Terry said above .... if the dealer is pushing and demanding an answer - WALK AWAY NOW!!!

Its NOT the kind of Dealer you want to be talking to in my opinion! he is placing pressure on you .........

Remember one VERY important fact, YOU are the boss in this deal, YOU can take your money wherever you wish, HE has to dance to your tune as he can only sell that car to you right at this moment ..... he cannot go elsewhere (and ignore any bollox about 15 buyers in the queue!)

Please, take control of the deal and DEMAND what you want ......

I would sell your car private, get a high street loan and THEN tell him you will give him £15k CASH .... to INCLUDE a SUBARU Warranty! ...........

Do NOT be pressured!

Good luck!

Pete
