what will £7k get me?
hi,
im considering getting a scooby in the next few months after a little saving up. the figure im looking to have to play with is £7k.
just wondered what i should ideally be getting for my cash. stuff like age, spec, mileage etc. as im just about to turn 25 id prefer, for insurance reasons, a standard 2000/W reg UK car with 50 000 miles and a FSH, does that sound ambitious or achievable? or maybe a slightly older R/S reg motor but slightly higher standard spec, again whats availible?
could anyone offer an insight into running costs as well? im well aware insurance will be about £750 and mpg will be fairly low, is 22/23 mpg driving sensibly a decent guess? what sort of prices are standard service parts and who's the cheapest online specialists?
thanks for any info you can offer

As for insurance, I'm 30, full ncd, protected no-claims, wife on policy, car on drive overnight, no points, no claims, good postcode, and I'm paying £700 a year insurance.
Running costs - vary's depending on what you intend to do to the car - as standard, I would expect 270 miles to a tankful of optimax with a good mix of driving. Work on it being £45 to fill it up.
Servicing is every 6 months or so, major services are steep, at anywhere between £300 and £500, minior services are around £150, depending on where you go. Main dealers are generally avoided when warranties run out, as they have always been slightly more expensive than the specialists. Be careful wich speacilists you use however, as not all of them follow the exact service schedule in the handbook.
as for parts online, plenty of scooby only sites around, I'm not going to advertise for them but if you do a few searches the good (and bad) will turn up.
As for an Impreza being recommended, it most certainly is!

If insurance is an issue as it was for me when I first purchased my Impreza stick to uk cars... may not be quite the spec of a wrx but still a excellent car.
I have a 97 classic, 62k fsh full leather, air con etc... 12mths mot 6mths tax for sale for £7250, may be a bit more than other are asking but you get what you pay for !!! Give me a call if you want 07967 039961

Personally stick to MY99-00 as you get last revision bumper and 4 pots and a bit more power. MY99 may well be best with regard to some feeling that the 99 ECU is better than the 00 (or summat!)
Now, if I had the money I paid for my car back in Oct 03 I'd go for a 2 door STI for sure.

i think u need to be 25+ if it's modded with them - get a quote online 1st, take it out if it's good or ring them...you have the right to cancel within 14 days and get a full refund.
discount for doing it online...or say it wouldnt take your card etc etc
oh, you need a tracker too - i wasnt bothered as it was extra peace of mind but cost me £350 from motorguard in brum

I just insured with Privilege Insurance online - answered every question 100% honestly and accurately. There were no questions about modifications or imports.....
They were £150 cheaper than Direct Line who I was with last year - and Direct Line underwrite them. I'll never understand the insurance market......

bit of a bonus quote there from direct line!!! £676 once i turn 25 in a few months. not sure how the insurance will work though, as i currently hold a policy with them so i may not be offered such a cheap price to upgrade my car, or even quote me at all as ill have become 25 whilst already with them when the time comes. may have to cancel my insurance 4 months in then take out a new policy again?!

ive read the micareds advert and if i didnt have this vectra sitting outside and it was in 3 months time i would almost certainly be giving it some serious thought
