Smile Power to weight ratios (Classic, bug-eye & Blob-eye)????

I've done a search but haven't come up with anything so I'm putting this out to you guys......

I'm interested to know what the power to weight figures are for each generation of impreza (Classic, Bug-eye & Blob). bhp per tonne??

The classic was the lightest with the lowest bhp figure, the bug-eye heavier but increased bhp and so on!

On a level playing field which has the best power to weight ratio?

I have a classic and know that standard this is 218bhp but I'm unsure of the weight! To be honest I haven't got a clue what the others are (standard).

Anyone willing and able to help?

Check out Evo Webby:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/evo_data/the_knowledge/?4

They have some on there.

Oops, just realised they have power to weight ratios, but not weight as they have in the actual magazine.

From memory, the classic weighs in at 1235kg and the new-age at about 1380kg.

Also have a look at this thread I joined in:

Thanks for the link, you've answered my question perfectly.

Autoexpress figures for those that are interested;

Classic 215bhp 177bhp/ton (reverse calc of weight 1214kg) 5.4 sec
Bug-eye 221bhp 161bhp/ton (reverse calc of weight 1373kg) 5.5 sec
Blob-eye 262bhp 185bhp/ton (reverse calc of weight 1416kg) 5.2 sec

SPEC C 335 bhp 247bhp/ton (assuming 1356kg)

What about the power to weight AFTER transmission losses? i.e. wheels power to weight.

Not that you asked, but just in case we meet on a deserted dual carriageway

My standard-ish 205 Mi16 (170 bhp/920kg) = 184 bhp/ton with 2WD losses

Either you've had the blob-eye PPP'd or it's a standard STi, according to those calculations : the bug-eye was rated at 215bhp, and the blob 220.

The new shape cars have different weights, the STi's are heavier presumably down to the six speed box.

I think from memory a blobeye STi was something like 1470kg.

This was not the RB5, the RB5 is the same as the std UK Turbo. The figures above are for the PPP Classic.

Is indeed a can of worms and no doubt many people with argue with the fugures. --- GOOD LUCK---

They can argue all they want - with Auto express!!

Agree about the RB5, hadn't noticed that when I copied the figures.

I'm sure there are plenty of discrepencies, but I'm happy with the approximate figures here.
