In Aid of Childrens Renal Unit
Me and a friend are doing a sponsored bungee ejection seat in aid of the childrens unit at St'James's hospital in Leeds.
If any of you could make it along for the day it would be great. Its going to be held at "The Aspley" pub in huddersfield on 23rd April. We're going to book our bungee for about 2:30pm after which we'll be having a bit of dinner in the pub.
Of course , I'm also asking if any of you kind Ladies & gents would like to sponsor me for the event aswell , it dosnt have to be much and its going to a very good cause.
any monies will have to be collected before the event or on the day an hour or so prior to the bungee.
If anyone would like to sponsor me then pm me me your name & address and the amount you'd like to donate , so I can fill it out on the official form I have, can you also bump this back up by putting your SNet user name in a post below.
heres a brief description of the event:
The ride consists of a metal spherical capsule, which comfortably holds 2 adult riders. The capsule is suspended between two pieces of elastic bungy chord, and is securely locked into the ground. The bungy chord is then stretched with over 2 tonnes of kinetic energy, as it is stretched upwards along the two 40 metre supports on either side of the capsule, 25 metres apart. (not sure of the heights mentioned ,as this was taken from another site)
The capsule tilts back, and the riders find themselves in a reclined position, nervously gazing up into the sky, awaiting launch
The safety cage and its two human occupants rocket into the sky, reaching a height of 57 metres (15 metres higher than the supports) in 1.3 seconds! This exposes the riders to 5 - 6 G's (depending on rider weight), as they reach an incredible speed of 167 kilometres per hour.
...Weightlessness begins, as the launch vehicle reaches the apex of its trajectory
...then 'GROUND RUSH' as the sphere races towards earth.
Once again, the bungy cords fight gravity - as it hurls the capsule back into the air.
While all this is taking place, the capsule tumbles freely - flipping the riders upside down as they plummet towards the earth / sky
and a brief description of the cause
The charity involved is the Dr Joe Jaffe Support Charity which is trying to raise funds for the childrens renal unit at St James's (Jimmys) in Leeds
The Renal Dept provides life saving equiptment for critically ill kids ,and children needing kidney transplants.
Its a very worthy cause, so even if you can just donate £1 it would be of great benefit to them, or I can get you your own sponsorship form if your daft enough to give it a go
all donations will make a difference to these kids, even if its just £1
many thanks
Phil

it was a strange experience & pretty horrifying, but no matter really as it was for a good cause.
I think the fact that I had 2 pints with chilli & rice 30 minutes before hand wouldnt have helped much.
I'll post any pics and the vid clips (I think it'll be better to turn off the sound) by next weekend as I'm away most of the week with work.
I also mentioned that there were a few outstanding cheques, but they said that its not a problem & I can pass them on to the charity concerned
thanks again
