jdm sti if you can not afford a spec c, i would of thought you could get a dccd euro import for 23.5k.

go test drive a uk and a jdm car you will know which one is best.

tough question as they are both great cars im sure. i will always head to the spec'c' tho for obvious reasons. i prefer the raw edge of the spec'c' but you can still get the leccy extras on a limited edition one. the twin scroll turbo i prefer just seems to keep going to the red line.

litchfield is having a sports cat system designed by miltek for the spec'c' which should be awesome and a remap is advised by him for that.

mine is standard with 3000 miles on the clock has 290 bhp & 315lb torque..... keeps with/infront of most modded STI7s that i have found that are running around 335bhp......

oh

somone told me the jdm sti was 330 bhp already ? is that bull do you think ?

with the miltek upgrade and re-mapp, what poer gains would you expect ?

i mut also admit, the light weight is more apealing, screw electric windows !

there is talk that with a de-cat and map anything up to or over 350 bhp.......

once i recoup some money after buying mine i will be defo havin the rest of the zorst done and mapped. 330 out the box i would say is bull. but can be over 300 defo. mine as i said is still fairly low miles and a few have RR'd there cars and were similar @low miles and now 10k + are above 300bhp. but as i said they keep with modded STI'S @290 so cant wait for the re-map...... where in the country are ya????? dont mind if not too far and im in ya area to take ya for a spin......

jdm without doubt if you are prepared to live with the warranty issue and more insurance altho I just reinsured mine for £1197 with norwich union would you believe. Up side - you can mod away! - something that frustrated me with a UK car having to preserve that precious warranty.

Spec c - if you can live with it. No difference in handling between the standard jdm sti and the spec c. It's just a weight, noise and perks issue. Have driven and I decided I could not live with as a daily drive, in fact my jdm 05 sti with AST's, although absolutely brilliant on the track, is on the borderline as a daily drive. If I was doing rep's miles, I would pray for the return the old P1.

on balance the 05 car whether uk or jdm is the best bet with it's inherent handling refinements; the DCCD is a must - but the JDM gives you lots of better bits than the UK, it just makes sense. why have old stock ?

Just dumped a UK STi PPP in favour of a Spec C.

They are ALL great cars, but really depends on what you want out of the car. I bought the UK car because I wanted the assurance of what I was buying, warranty, lower insurance etc etc. After a week of ownership I decided I wanted more power and then looked down the route of modifications. Fortunately I was stopped by somebody that shall not be mentioned and have now bought a Spec C. I have driven the JDM STi, so can give a fair comparison, but have not driven a WR1 or T25 so unable to comment on those models.

I have now realised I want a very very fast A to B car, that handles likes it's on rails and don't mind losing comforts because of that. I basically want a car I can rag around and then give it some on the track..... so I chose perhaps one of these most ultimate weapons to do that in. The car is only a pleasure car, so comforts are not an issue.

At the end of the day, see what you can get a test drive in, decide what you REALLY want the car for and then make an informed decision.

What ever you purchase I am sure you will be pleased.

BTW... My Spec C has only a first generation sport cat exhaust, basic re-map for UK fuel (very conservative) and is circa 335bhp....... while it wont stay like this for much longer, it is already very very rapid.

yes, for one year as opposed to 3 unless you pay more; insurance may now be cominmg more in line with UK but still more..

I was quoted £190 more for my Spec C compared to a STANDARD UK STi (Thats without PPP), so I would agree.... it seems like insurance is more sensible nowadays.

Shaun.

Insurance on the imports is much better these days. Premiums shouldn't be too bad.

Contact Iain Litchfield and go for a test drive - you'll be converted

Same config as mine and just had it measured at 327bhp with 2.5k miles on the clock ... hoping for a bit more when the engine loosens up and more than that when I get it remapped.

I live with my Spec C Limited (aircon, central locking) as a daily driver ... no probs at all.

Only a few hundred more than a JDM STi and the weight difference is very noticeable.

Shopping list =

spec c with a good deal from dealer,or discount etc
on the road re-map

De cat (but still gets through mot) (not sure if that just leaves sports cat etc)

Total cost of above = ?
Total bhp/torq with the above fitted ?
Effects on warranty or back doors ?
Insurance - 34 years,5 years no claims in the bedforshire ? 1000k ?

And one last thing, i have a wrxppp my04, what will go through my mind when i floor my intended next car down a country lane ?

With that lot you'd be looking at a minimum of 330bhp/330lb ft. TSL do a remap and exhaust combination and claim 360/380 for it! Other mappers reckon 350/350 is achievable.

My insurance was £820 with NU direct; 33, Full NCB, North Essex.

If you buy from Litchfields you get a 12 month extendable warranty and Iain seems pretty relaxed about mods.

Are you looking to buy a new car or second hand?

What will go through your mind: "Holy sheeeeiiiit ...." (or similar)

Virgin,

Make sure you test drive one before making your mind up. These cars are not as easy to drive as a standard pre latest UK STi Scoob..... it will certainly be TOTALLY different to your WRX. Sure they handle brilliantly, but they are so much different then a non DCCD car, let alone with rest of the Spec-C handling differences as well. Don't want to sound like i'm putting a spanner in the works and don't want you to think it is a bad thing.... just making you aware.

A full decat, induction change and full re-map should see you with a good 350bhp minimum.

Regards,
Shaun.
