Hi Guys and Gals,
This weekend is the first rally for my rally team with our new Escort Cosworth GroupA car.
We have been out of action all year building the new car, we led last years championship in our old GroupA Sapphire.
The event is the woodpecker stages rally based around Ludlow in shropshire.
The format is first on stage the formula 2 (FWD) cars in the Gold star championship. Once all the F2 cars have run through the stage the big boys in the open class WRC, GroupA and GroupN cars run. There is usually a gap of 15 minutes between the last F2 car and first Silver star 4x4 cars. There are 180 cars entered, its one of the bigest national forest rallies of the year.
We are running car 19, driven by simon crook.
The car moved under its own steam for the first time today so this weekend will be a major test event for us but simon will still be going for it. He recieved the star drive on some events last year, our best finish being 2nd overall on the dukeries rally.
below are the top 10 entries in F2 and 4x4 classes, we are running 9th on the road in the 4x4 category cars, our best finish to date on the woodpecker being 3rd overall.
spectator info is also below.
Come allong and cheer us on, the car is sponsored by Blakemans and if you see the car queueing near the start, wish the guys good luck and say you know me.
It's also the first event for simon with graeme wood on the maps, normally its his brother alister but he isnt available for a few events this year.
see you on the stages

Hi John
I'll be there plus some others friends. Only 20 mins down the road from me.
What will you be driving, where will you be spectating?
Watch Andrew Burton Go!! - cosworth powered I hate to admit. He is from my old club, Ludlow Castle.
All the best and good luck
Mark Coleman.

Will be there ( with family ).
Listers of Worcester( main sponsor ) are running the course cars ( Isuzu troopers I believe ) and stage opener in the shape of an Impreza.
We'll give number 19 a big cheer.
Good luck !!

Thanks guys,
I will be driving my impreza as the chase car, so if you see a silver impreza sport loaded up with rally spares, thats probably me.
I hope its wet/damp as last year was a knightmare in the dust on stage for anyone except andy burton who was car 1.

Keep us posted on the result.
We saw your car yesterday on Stage 1, Junction 10.
Looked very good and committed but neither chap waved back
Not quite as quick as Mr Burton in his red rocket but going for it.

Hi guys and gals.
Event went really well, served the purpose perfectly as we were out to give the car and team a shakedown amongst some top competition.
We finsished the car literally 5 minutes before the start ramp, there is never enough time when building a new competition car.
We were hoping to be on the pace straight away and able to run in the top 10 on occasion.
Our overall finish position was poor as we had a puncture in the longest stage on the event and lost 4 minutes, as this event is a shakedown however that wasnt a real issue, we were more interested in the cars performance and stage times when it was running without any problems.
We were 11th on stage 1, 7th on 2, 14th on 3 and 8th on 4. That was the overnight halt point and left us in 13th overall just a few seconds behind 8th overall.
The main problem on the car was the drivers seat position wasnt quite right and on stage simon was strugling with getting full travel on the pedals, we changed that at the final service halt of day 1 as we had enough time. The car was running really well, all sytems functioning as expected except the car cut out on a couple of hairpins, the idle is 100rpm too low so not a major issue. That will be sorted for the next event.
on day 2, the first stage was the events longest and we had a puncture, simon stoped on stage next to our sponsors and suporters and changed the wheel, they lost 4 minutes so that killed any chance of a decent overall result but we weren't disheartened as the event is purely to test the car and team.
times were 12th on stage 6, 8th on stage 7 and 6th on stage 8.
We are all very pleased with how the car and team performed straight out of the box, we have some major updates on the way for next year and to be setting top 10 stage times immediately is very promising. Without the puncture we would have been comfortably in the top 10 overall at the finish so a good first outing for the team.
Next event should be the cambrain rally in 4 weeks, same again for that one, shake down and practice event for our championship challenge for next season.
below are some pictures Harj took on the event, thanks Harj.
