Question 03-WRX...

Only posted here a few times, I was originally wanting a P1 but I've "lowered" my sights to an 03 plate WRX now. Is there anything I should be looking out for? The one I've seen has 29k and is due a service - should I be concerned about an independant dealer doing this? would it effect warranty? I've also posted about the actual dealer, under "dealer queries" if anyone could shed some light on them! What are the brakes like on the newer scoobys? whats a realistic mpg on this wrx?

Thanks

MPG 20 or up to 30 if you are lucky on a long run and sticking to 70ish on the motorway. Well mine does anyway. Brakes are not the best in my opinion if OEM pads.
I would say service has to be main dealer for warranty to be intact too.

Service doesn't have to be main dealer, as long as the garage is VAT registered and they use OE parts. I'd recommend negotiating the cost of the service off the price, and then get it done somewhere like Scoobyclinic. The brakes improve greatly with good aftermarket pads, such as EBC Red Ceramic, Mintex 1155, Ferodo DS2500 or Pagids. Also worth considering braided hoses and DOT5.1 fluid.

On a run, you should be able to get over 30mpg. I managed 32.75 on a 350 miler home from Devon, but I also have PPP which helps economy a little.

The service will cost you around £300, if you have to pay for it. Whilst in warranty I would use a Subaru dealer, so no arguments if you need a warranty claim.

MPG between 20, on a weekend "run" and 26-30 on the motorway, 80-90MPH. Mine has averaged 26 over 30K miles, 70% motorway though.

Budget for PPP, it's the best £1600 you can spend, unless you want to blow the warranty and go for a ecutek and decat. Also Prodrive springs, uprated pads.......

£300 for a 30k service is cheap The 30k is the one with all the fluids (oil, 'box, diff, coolant) & plugs. Usually £450+ at dealers.
